    EPIRB out of date

After reading the thread on whether you need an EPIRB had a quick look at the EPIRB in my boat the other day to find that it had run out of date in May.
    What are my options now?
Get it re-checked - How much?
    Knew battery - How much?
Buy a new one - How much ?
PS Test light still works OK
Always going to have one so I'm just looking to the least expensive alternative.

a local place called nautical electronic technologies. most good marine chandleries should be able to help you out. ive got a feeling they just send it off to the manufacturers for the service. id contact the manufacturer (if posible) you may get it cheaper by cutting out the middle man.

    Re: EPIRB out of date

$140 bucks is about ball park for the orange one, some of the others only around $40.

At this point in time simply cheaper to replace the batteries as come not longer after 2007 these types will be very close to be obsolete.

The worst part is some batteries have a useable life of well over 10 years but the law says 5 years and that it. Some others use replacebale batteries that only have a 2 year replacement life but those can be brought from the local supermarket.

    Cheers, Kerry.
