Plate Bottom for Tinney

Hi All,
I have a few splits in the bottom of my tinney and thinking about replacing it with plate. A mate of mine has done it and is very happy with the job.
Has anyone done this?
Are there any problems with doing it. I have welded up the splits, but the alloy is fairly fatigued and is slowly starting to split again.
Any thoughts opinions would be appreciated

Have heard of this problem from other people .
Have not ever heard of replacing the bottom plates but .
It would seem like a formidable task .
How big is the boat?
I would think that a new hull would be the order for the day .

Thanks for the reply guys.
It is a 4.1 meters.
It is probably the result of putting a heavy 4 stroke on a tramsom that was meant for a 2 stroke.
Preparation is the most important aspect. A mate did his 16 footer and it turned out really well. We will do it ourselves and will probably take about 1 week of afternoon work and a full weekend.

Another point of interest Dazza is that of the trailer set up .
I have it on good authotity that the weight of alloy boats should be supported along the keel and the use of double wobble rollers here is not recomended by some manufacturers.
The side runners should only be used to craddle the boat and not hold the full weight . You can read more about this on www.allycraft.com.au (press room) . Anyhow all the best with the repair . Regards Reel Hard

Hi Reel Hard,
Have put in an extra cross member in the trailer and an extra roller, to hopefully give it a bit more support along the keel. I travel some very rough tracks to get to some fishing spots, so fingers crossed my problems should be solved once I get the new bottom on. Should make the ride a bit better with the extra weight. I will take a few photos and post them for anyone who is interested. Hopefully get it done in the next month or so

I was looking through the links on the home page and went into the allucraft site , it was interesting that they make a 4.3mtr open tinny with a 4mm bootom sheet for tripping on rough tracks . Hope you have success
with the repairs and I will deffinitely be interested in the photos . Reel Hard
