Tomcat Charters

I am off this Saturday on a charter with Tomcat Charters from Cleveland, has anyone fished this boat recently? It looks good on the web site but any personal thoughts would be great. 8)

Griz,

Had some mates go on it a couple of years ago (can't remember exactly). Sorry But they weren't exactly complimentary.

They paid for a night trip out past North Straddie. Anchored before dark and the skipper refused to move after that. Fishing was very very slow. Manged 6 fish (total) between 8 blokes in 8 hours. They tried to convince skipper to move he wouldn't.

They weren't happy but it may have been just a one-off thing. I'm sure there are heaps of examples of good days so don't let that sway you.

Let us know how you go.

Bloke called Troy Dickson works as deckhand on this vessel, and he is one hell of a fisho. Saddle up to him and get some inside info.

Had one night trip on "Tomcat" a couple of years back. We caught plenty of Trag and a few Squire. One of the Guy;s got a nice 6 kilo Snapper, lucky bastard !!!
The wind blew up early and I threw my guts up over the Bow. A most memorable trip. We came in a lot earlier than planned, Thank the lord for that.

I had a chat to the crew who told me they averaged around 100 kilos on those night trips (mainly Trag Jew).

Cheers
Craig.

Yup, Iv'e seen that boat out from Point Lookout many a time. It seems to hover between Shag Rock and Boat rock. I wouldn't call that ofshore fishing, and I cant say that I saw any of them pulling in any fish. I guess that when you go on a charter trip you are at the mercy of the skipper. >

I have been out twice with Dave and caught some sort of fish both times. From my experienc he tried hard to get fish but that is not always possible.
His deckie used to be dave palmero the son of the famous snapper fisherman and we got shown how to catch a couple of knobbies by an expert, I had a hook up at the same time as dave but a mistake by the skipper (he reached under my reel and tightened hte drag instead of freeing it ) cost me a Knobbie.
