Propeller pitch
Hi fella's,
i have a 1975 135hp evinrude with a stainless steel prop,I have the opportunity to buy a second hand stainless one as a spare however it's at another town and i can't get a look at it. The seller states in the add it's a 15x17 ( I guess that's the pitch) and part number 431930, it has three blades like mine, can anyone tell me if this would fit and if so have any affect on the performance as I looked in the manual and it states that this motor is factory fitted with a 19 degree pitch prop.
Thanks for your time

Re: Propeller pitch
It's irrelevent what size prop is "factory fitted" as props need to be matched to the particular boat/motor combination. Different boat/motor combinations require different props and generally motors back then were supplied standard with a prop that best suited the average set-up, but generally factory supplied props rarely suit and are generally over pitched.
Are you assuming or do you know if it is an actual OMC prop or is that an OMC part number? 15*17 is 15" diam and 17" pitch. Fit? as long as it's an OMC prop it should but just make sure you have the room to swing a 15", which shouldn't be a problem if you existing prop is 15"
I suppose if your existing 19" is properly matched to your boat/motor then a 17" will gain you a few revs but not be a major drama especially as a spare, if that's what it's going to be.
Maybe the 17" might be better suited? do you know the max WOT for the motor and max WOT revs it actually achieves on your boat?
Cheers, Kerry.

Re: Propeller pitch
sounds like your not too sure what prop you have on it now. why not take your prop off and look around the hub area. the diameter * the pitch with a letter code might be found there. the letter code might relate to the spline type.
if you really want to buy the 15 * 17, pay for it with a guarantee it can be returned if it's unsuitable on your rig.
thats what i would agree to with my 13.5 * 15 K for sale.
seems perfectly reasonable to me.
don't forget, you might need a torque wrench and new stainless split pin or tab washer putting it back together

Re: Propeller pitch
Thanks heaps for your help Kerry and aido, you taught me a bit about props however the seller has emailed me back and said he has found out it's off a V6 and apparently it will not fit my motor.
Thanks again, your comments were appreciated
