Re: boats
The retail market in Aust is at the high end cost wise for most products, something to do with haveing such a small potential buyer base overall. A boat will never be an investment for 99% of us so why buy new? Get a secondhandy let someone else throw their money away on these big ticket purchases, sit back and smile about your good fortune and smart business sense. There are hundreds of very good second hand boats out there just as good and better sometimes if you consider the new boat bugs have already been ironed out and they are priced around what a decent boat would be for a cheap price new like you said I guess.
Try fixing one up yourself you should find it harder to sell - ever and the satisfaction should be a few grades higher than just riding in a tailor made.
What about doing this - Buy a well designed fibreglass junker hull 16-18 foot-ish $500 do it up to near new yourself $1000, buy secondhand or build a trailer $1200-$1500 depending, basic hull fitout yourself $800, a 90 to 140hp good enough to get you started for a couple or more years $2500. So for roughly $6500 you have a better than new hull on the water and can put all those potnetially wasted interest payments into a new or better engine, your family, extra trips - whatever, just seems logical to me, but it is time expensive. Enjoy your boating however you achieve it.nq

Re: boats
Hi Blaze, I am moving along very slowly, to many visitors keep thinking my place would suit them fine for a holiday but thats ok. The next couple of weeks are free and should see the trailer completed enough to winch the boat up and off the ground. I am a bit sick of metalwork so will swap back to the fibreglass again. recon it will be winter before it gets real close. Hope things are good in your boating endevours. nq
