yep...just beat me to it...I assume you are talking ethanol....do you have hard evidence because I know that BP refine their own petrol at Bulwer Is in Brissy.

I think you will find that the problem lies in the heavier-than-air property of the petrol fumes. They become trapped in the hull of a boat or boot of a car. One tiny spark can mean kaboom! Inboard starter motors, electric pump motors etc, have all been known to ignite errant fuel vapours.
getout you are correct. All 95 and 98 octane are ethanol free.
The only product that contains ethanol at a BP is E10. You can still buy non ethanol 91 at some smaller sites, but not many (and not for long).
Unlike Shell that brought out their super 100 octane fuel V Power Plus and it contained ethanol and some of the independent brands that sell a premium 95 that contains ethanol (and is advertised that way)
Getout - I know what you mean about that...for inboards bilge blowers and gas saturation alarms are a must, but I was more referring to Lee's comment and the BP reaction to fueling itself...not starting the boat because noone is doing that at the servo as far as I know. Cheers mate

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26067395-2,00.html Have a read, holding the can in the air, it wasnt a fuel pump or starter motor that caused the fire. Leigh
have seen it happen myself and had to put the fire out. Lady that it happened too was very shocked.....picked up the can off the ground during filling when BANG!!
Look at how many people fill boats & tins every day without incident, but it can happen. People just need to realise it and take care, no differant to driving a car or boat.. Leigh
The BP that i used to fill both boat and car went all Ethanol on the ULP pumps,it wasn't hard to give them the flick. All subsequent Bp's i have gone to are the same.My Opti uses 95 ron only but i sure as hell aren't putting Ethanol through the Prado. So for me Bp don't exist.Jim
