I think you will find that the problem lies in the heavier-than-air property of the petrol fumes. They become trapped in the hull of a boat or boot of a car. One tiny spark can mean kaboom! Inboard starter motors, electric pump motors etc, have all been known to ignite errant fuel vapours.

I think the 95 and 98 RON are ethanol free.

getout you are correct. All 95 and 98 octane are ethanol free.
The only product that contains ethanol at a BP is E10. You can still buy non ethanol 91 at some smaller sites, but not many (and not for long).
Unlike Shell that brought out their super 100 octane fuel V Power Plus and it contained ethanol and some of the independent brands that sell a premium 95 that contains ethanol (and is advertised that way)

Getout - I know what you mean about that...for inboards bilge blowers and gas saturation alarms are a must, but I was more referring to Lee's comment and the BP reaction to fueling itself...not starting the boat because noone is doing that at the servo as far as I know. Cheers mate

I can't work this out either, earth is to Earth, or so I thought and rubber doesn't provide a good earth ... like rubber thongs.
ie why do you hop out off a car on a long trip and still get zapped!

Have a look at what the plane refueler guys do, first thing is clip on the "earth strap" between the plane & the tanker. Leigh

Look at how many people fill boats & tins every day without incident, but it can happen. People just need to realise it and take care, no differant to driving a car or boat.. Leigh

The BP that i used to fill both boat and car went all Ethanol on the ULP pumps,it wasn't hard to give them the flick. All subsequent Bp's i have gone to are the same.My Opti uses 95 ron only but i sure as hell aren't putting Ethanol through the Prado. So for me Bp don't exist.Jim

Shell V Power is 98.5 octane and doesnt contain Ethanol....there is no Shell V Power "plus" in Australia to the best of my knowledge although V Power is rated 100 octane in Germany.
