    115HP suzuki

    Hi guys and gals
The father in law is about to purchase a new boat and has asked me to put up a post about this type of motor.
Has anyone got one or done any research on them.
    any details appreciated.
should he get fuel injected or carb?
    what are they like?

    thanks in advance

I believe this is the NEW Suzuki ?

Well the age old " now " question of carby or efi or hpdi is a quandry. As we all know, Heath went for the carby model as his fishing trips were always close to shore and he couldn't justify the cost of a 4 banger or HPDI.

Then again, my arguement was not only fuel savings, but RE-SALE value is way ahead of the carby models, especially considering the 2006 EPA regs coming in.

Suzuki now actually build another well known brand of motor, that I just can't think of as yet ( jonno or evinrude ). anyway.

so many variables to consider when purchasing.

Does he do a lot of trolling, long distances, bar work, budget ? and more.

Suzuki have been making outboards for quite some time now, so they should have a handle on it.

4 banger gets my vote every time.

Hi IMHO, there are no strictly bad midrange outboards out there, even the opti's have got better finally, it all now relates to price, fishing style/usage, brand loyalty and the 'Nike' factor. I have my own solid personal opinions and that is all they are, there are literally thousands of variables. This might help?

2st carb = most fuel usage, if a person has the will and/or knowledge with a spanner, is the most cost effective option if keeping for the life of the motor and beyond, most chance of a surprise rebuild before it wears out due to fuel/delivery/tune problems.

2st EFI = slightly better fuel econ than carb, more reliable on average than carb, fuel/delivery/tune problems less common overall, although when problem become apparent more money is needed to
recify/replace dfi related parts. less chance of a surprise rebuild than carb 2s.

2st dfi. Cannot comment solidly, supposed to be better than above although look at the least complicated design only, if planing to keep the motor for it's lifetime.

4st= The players in this all have their quality control sorted, so they are very reliable on average, 4st carb is more reliable than carb and efi 2st, being less 'touchy' to tune/fuel/delivery conditions. The first production 4st outboard came out in the 1950s and water cooled in the 1960s so they are not new technology! Need to go 20% over 2st hp to gain the same performance (no exceptions). Not the type of motor to buy to keep for it's powerhead lifetime or beyond. Economy and user friendliness has it all over 2s carb and efi and on a par or laging behind DFI on paper. Suzuki are the manufacturers of that motor and Bombadier (johnson/evinrude) sell the rebadged identical product less paint decals etc.

If planning to keep the package for a long time go DFI (the least complicated design only) and if you can use a spanner then efi or carb2s, , if only keeping the rig for 5 or so years with average/hard use then go DFI or 4st any brand. Hope this helps nq.

    Re: 115HP suzuki

Hi, I've just been through this exercise although on a larger scale (200hp.) Have decided to go with Yamaha HPDI although the dealer that I chose in the end was exclusively Yamaha anyway. Things that swung me were fuel economy on a 2stroke, power to weight ratio, low emissions (although not as low as 4S.)

I kept away from Evenrude because of bad wraps in the DI models but I note that they are starting to release the new ETec range which is supposed to be quantum leap in 2stroke technology - who knows? Higher HP models not available in Australia till end of 2004!

On the 115 issue, I have just sold my current boat with a 115 Mercury EFI 4-stroke and it is a brilliant motor. Heaps of grunt on a 19 foot glass hull, very quite and very economical although probably not as quiet as some of the other 4's in the upper rev range.

Good luck & good fishing with whatever you choose. I know I can't wait to get my new rig.

    Davo.

just a word on the E-TEC 2strokes. 3years or 300hours to first service.
BUT and this is the expensive part. they have large muffler in the leg that is replace at this service, with plugs water pump and a few other things. your wallet will and i mean WILL be $1500 lighter minimum. cost has not been finalized by dealers yet, ( 3 years too far away ) but better fuel econ than 4ST, lighter, faster. almost as quiet, not smoke. something like 100mls oil too 100litres fuel i think. but about 3-4000 more expensive than 4ST.just wait for report from Wayne Kemp early 2004 reguarding E-TEC 90 hp on his NEW Galeforce 5.5M C/C. motor delivered this month sometime.
first in SE QLD im told.
at the end of the day it will be brand NEW so you have warranty , i like Merc 2/3/4 years, best arround. i think the merc is the 1 that is the same as Suzie in the 4st
i recall the guy at nitro marine saying 90hp 4st was suzie siera or jimmy engine.
    then it realy gets ughly
