Hi guys im new here great site 2 just wondering if any body here has a seafarer vikking 5.5m.Are these boats good in the rough water any info would be great or does any one have a savage mako 5.5m im stuck and not sure wich is a better boat as im interested in both thanks.
The Viking is an excellent boat. The Mako is as well from all accounts, however I found the aft very low. Sort of felt like you were going to fall out if you went down the back.
Never been in the Savage but owned a Viking for 3 years. Fantastic boat and built tough as nails. Saefarer always had a rep for producing seaworthy boats that work in all weather conditions. I've been out in it in 30 knots on the bay a few times (never much fun) but it went well, sure you get pounded but it got us home on those days we should have been home. Great bar crossing boat too due to the cuddy design that keeps the breakers out if you are unlucky enough to get one on the nose. Heath is right about the cruisecrafts though, they are pretty nice too. Really though most of the Australian manufacturers make a pretty good boat now, if they don' they are out of business.
I have owned both Savage and Seafarer boats.
There is no contest... Seafarer win hands down.
I had the Vedette (20'6") and also the Ventura (17') which is the half cab version of the Viking.
Very sure footed, very forgiving and very safe.
Seafarers are a much heavier boat than the rest and as such make good sea boats.
Aido has a Vedette now and can probably let you know his thoughts as well.
If I can afford it, my next boat will be another Seafarer.
hay guys thanks for the replys im thinking about a new vikking heath ive always loved seafarer boats bit more expensive but worth it i think all so do they broch in 10-20 knots of rough water thanks for your help dan.
A mate has got a savage mako at south west rocks in NSW. Been in it and is a good boat.really travels well in a chop. Stern sits a bit low, but like my last boat haines 540, but depends on size a weight of motor to some degree. Both good sea boats. I currently have a seafarer victory and can only say they are a built solid same as the viking.
Cruisecrafts , seafarers, southwinds, haines now all build good boats as I spent some time deciding about 12 months ago.
Depends on finances, new or s/hand and if you fish one up. whatever you decide you will enjoy and then you will be looking at all the other boats for input to making yours even better.
