Have purchased latest model honda 40hp o.b. it is a great motor, very economical,no noise, plenty of power but have found on accasions it is very hard to restart even when the motor is warm. it has just had its first 10hr service . dealer says it is possibly the auto choke.-Beatle.
beatle,
take it back mate,
it is still under warranty.
you fork out enough bucks the bloody thing it should work properly.
i have had my honda 40 for about 4 years now and it is going like a dream, get it sorted and you should have years of trouble free boating

I doubt there is any thing wrong with your honda. Since they went over to the auto choke they all suffer the same problem. You will have also have noticed that they take a while to warm up and will not go over idle until they are ready to. I had a 2002 50hp and with a little choke she would start first time every time and there was no warming up period needed, turn the throttle and you were away.
I currently have a 2003 model and it takes a bit of cranking to start and it is a bigger pain during the colder months. It usually starts first go when it is warm, but some times a little throttle is needed. When your starting it cold dont touch the throttle or you will be sitting there all day.
Thanks for the info. fellas.I will try and give it a little throttle when warm. Also will look at carby plates.Friend has new 50h.p. and has same problem.Maybe it will sort itself out, am still very happy with motor . - Beatle.
Mate you paid the money to buy a new motor. You then take it in for 10hr service and they tell you that it may be the choke.Well get them to fix it thats what they are there for,not just to tell you what the trouble may be.I would not touch the motor no matter how small the problem is, other than an emergency situation. That what a warranty period is for to iron out these problems.
coudl be the tightness of the new motor ?
ive had a mate who had problems with the new motor being tight, when hot the metal in the motor expands and becomes hard to start ?
just an idea
