How to measure boat for mooring purpose?

Hi,

I want to moor a 5.5m Ventura which according to the manufacturers website, has a centreline length of 5.5m. To moor a boat in NSW they say that the vessell must be at least 5.2m in length, measured from the tip of the bow to the transom, not including bow sprit, outboard or other appendages. This boat actually has a bow rail, bow sprit (which I believe is the bit that sticks out the front of the bow)and an outboard.

How is centreline length measured? A private seller has also advertised this boat as LOA of 17' (5.18m), so how is LOA measured.

Seems too confusing! Can I moor moor this boat? Can I legally extend the lenght a few cm to cross the line??

Hi, To my knowledge you need to measure from the pointy-est part of the hull proper down its length parallel with the keel to the furthermost portion of the hull proper aft. Anything that sticks out or is screwed or mounted in anyway to the hull does not count. If it is just under I would call it just over, who is going to check? just red tape. good luck nq
