Motor konked out - any ideas?

I was heading back to the Woody Pt ramp this morning pulling about 3000 RPM when, without any warning, the motor died. I checked the prop but all seemed ok.

When I tried restarting it, it sounded like the starter wouldn't engage or something similar cos it just sort of buzzed, on the third try it fired up and seemed fine.

The only thing is that I was idling for about an hour not long before hand - could that cause it to stall? It's a 100 Merc.

    Hi,
Sometimes the low draw on the fuel pump from extended trolling can leave a bit of a hole in the supply that usually gets fixed as soon as you motor at cruise a little way. Mayby yours was just one of those hicups?
Trolling can pull more from the batery than the motor can put back in, your starter needs to spin fast to spin out the bendix, either your battery got a bit low not letting the bendix spin up or the shaft it slides on is a bit dry or a combination of both. Try some lubricabt like wd40 as a test before next trip to see and keep the battery charged, it might be the end of you probs. You might need to lube the shaft properly it does disapear over time. Good luck.nq

Sounds pretty right, thanks NQ. I'll give it a shot.
