All have just purchased yamaha motor and finished running it in at 25:1 was astounded to find out that I can now run it at 100:1 ratio. How ever I have a few concerns about that being such a lean mix. Was wondering if anyone could give me advice on this. and what you think cheers Marty.
Geday squire ,
I've got a 150 HPDI Yammy bought it new 2 years ago .
They classify it at 100 to1 oil mix , but Kieth the Sundown Marine head mechanic told me , the oil injection varies the mix as required from 50 to 1 to less than 100 to one .
I'm wrapped in it , top performance & fuel economy , no visible smoke at start up or when flushing on ear muffs at home .
Touch wood , so far the motor has never missed a beat .
Go the Yammies [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Sea raider thanks for the info yes would have to agree very impressed with the fuel economy and reliability thus far. Mine is only 15 hp Model so I have to mix it myself. one of my other concerns was whether or not the engine would be recieving enough lubrication. With the injection models the compute would take care of it as you said. Marty
I too was concerned when I bought my 30 hp yammie. The guys at Yatala Marine explained that Yamaha has a comittment to the environment and have developed an oil recycling system in the motor in such a manner so that no excess oil comes from the motor into the water. It is supposed to be a very efficient system and is designed around the 100-1 ratio. Using more oil in the mix only allows more oil to escape unburned during its operation.
I read my warranty and if the motor malfunctions under a 100-1 mix, it is covered. I would assume they can test to see if you have not been mixing correctly.
Yatala Marine said I could safely run the motor on 50-1 and suggested I run 3 tanks at 100-1, then run one thru at 50-1. I just tend to add a little extra oil to the 100-1 each time I fill up, and that seems to work well.
I can tell when I am running a bit too much oil in the mix cos there is excess unburned oil buildup around the overflow hole. I think my motor runs well at 100-1 and after all, it is covered by the warranty at the moment. Maybe after the warranty period, I will run at 50-1 ???.
cheers

I recently purchased a 15hp yammie, and ran it in per the handbook, and now run it at 100:1 because that is what yamaha tells me to do, because they have got more at stake than I have if their wrong, technology changes (this is why we pay too much for things) after all its not a 1970s lawnmower engine
I use to run my 100 to 1 at 50 to 1.
It has to do with the emmision standards that Yammaha have to produce the engine at. It is up to the individual how they use the product.
I have had my Yamaha 40HP for nearly 3 years running it at 100 to 1 simply because that is what the manual recommends. Runs like a dream. I haven't used Yamalube at all. Just make sure you stick with the correct grade.
i have a 40hp CV and I can run 100-1 but i prefer to run 75-1 or between 75-1 and 100-1 as I usuaully like to keep the motor just under the rev limiter , a little extra lube might keep the motor from goign bang
