    From another topic:

foxy nobody asked you to bite but unfortuneatley the moderaors in the unwise wisedom killed the rest of that topic but credit to you, yes the answer is no and it makes no difference to whatever aerial or radio one is using. unfortuneatley the mods don't have the experience to understand what this discussion is about. as you previously mentioned it is not a subject of radio of aerial or of hull or tools or flares or engines or batteries or anything else but simple common sense and indicating that a vhf was going to save you arse at or past 120k's is rubbish but thankyou at least some people might now not be disillusioned with what vhf is capable of. and yes the answer is no. either common sense has a part in everything or nothing...so what part does common sense play ??

Didn't mean to offend you gee-gee How much experience did you have before you went for your licence?

I am very much a fine detail person - I like to know as much as I can about something before I go into it.

I did the day course and spent half of that on the water. In all honesty I thought the information I was given was definitely worthwhile as I will be responsible for the safety of not only myself but many other people. Also handy to know the extent of fines you can cop...from a financial perspective. I thought of the course as a timely refresher, as well as being a bit of fun. That's what it's all about isn't it

    Re: Boat Licence

Cheers for the input guys, maybe i should have explained myself a little clearer. I grew up in a town where fishing was the only thing to do, my first job was on a charter boat for about 18 mths as a deckhand. in that time i learnt a lot about the water and how to navigate correctly on it. After leaving there i had a few more jobs that revolved around boats and the water. All of my mates have boats still and we regulary go out to wet a line or have a ski. it's just that i finally bought myself a boat and completely forgeting that all this time i never bothered to get a licence. So thanks alot for the concern and input....i have since gotten my licence doing a full day course and it refreshed my memory somewhat. I would say $130.00 well spent.. Cheers
