You should be able to get something like that for the money.
I saw a 97 Yammie 90hp for sale in Bris at a dealer for 4500.

Yeah if it is older than 94/95 and a Yam to be safe dont even consider it IMO. Be a bit carefull of 96/97 to 2001 Johnrudes they were OMC quality problem years, although any engine with problems from those years should have been fixed by now one would guess. Everything else is the normal outboard engine crap shoot. good luck with it.nq
thanks.

Reel Hard - Which dealer would that be? I'm thinking of possibly replacing my motor if plausable, so would be handy to know wheres good.
(Sorry to jump in on your post Tengals)
damn, bloody Qld'ers
Got all the good motors.
looking at a 90hp envinrude, Fully rebuilt 1989 model, 6mth w'tee, oil injection.
$4500 fitted?
any idea's
cheers
Tengals - I've got an 88 model 40HP evinrude, so (apart from size) same model motor. The only thing I was told was to make sure you don't use the oil mixing in the motor. Do it yourself in the petrol.
Someone like Spaniard King might be your best person to answer this question though.
Tengals,
Thats too dear for an 89 model,
personally If I was buyin an Evinrude/Johno I would look for a 60 degree engine, the 90 degree engine was a dog and very thirsty. 60 degree engines started from 1995 and are still made today. NQ was refering to the early model ficht engines which had some problems but these were mainly the V6's. I think you will find most V4 ficht engines were reliable.

ok, im not buying that motor, i saw it today and did'nt like it anyways. I have seen a mariner 1993 90hp for $4900 looks in good nic. What do you guys think?
cheers
Spaniard king what is a fair price for an early V4 90 Fict these days?
No idea on the Mariner but if you flip back to OMC at some time you will get more bang for your buck/hp if you buy a looper that last one was a crossflow engine, which is what I think Spaniard king was speaking about. It's worth finding out anway before buying. nq
i'd love just to find a mid to late 90's, 90hp for under 5500.
NO-ONE has em'
cheers
I have a 71 125hp V4 (probably puts out 105hp) down stairs in perfect running order you can have for $5500 I will even freight Aust wide for free cause I am such a great bloke. What do you think?![]()

Dont get desperate and get taken advantage of, it's easy with these engines.
Try doing a marine wreckers yellow pages search and let your fingers do the walking, they sometimes have good engines for sale and they know a lot of boating people so someone may have an engine for sale, personally I wouldn't even consider a dealer trade-in they are usually too expensive and the standard warrenty from them is pretty useless.
thanks heaps for the posts.
I have about 8 dealers, 6 mechs. and 10 other marine type people with their feelers out.
cheers
Regarding "Force".. They were known as an "Entry level" motor and the common term on the US sites is "Let the Force not be with you" :-)
If you take real good care of them, they will last, but have been made by a few companies who would rather forget about them. Sounds like you had a “Lean condition” and burned a piston or two.
Rebuild is risky with an old salty due to corrosion in water cover and water passages. Go for something newer with Stainless driveshaft.
yeah im looking for a 90-115 hp, mid to late 1990. just have to find the right motor.
cheers
still looking, have seen a few, but no good yet.
