Guys my old merc 100hp blew up
im looking for another donk!!!
$4000-5000 bucks 100-130hp, anything i should look for or stay away from?
please help. BTW what are 'Force' Motors like?
Bit early for a 4st at $4000 yet Chemmy at least in the HP range wanted. Give it 5 years and there should be a few going for wrecking prices considering they will probably cost 2/3 new replacement price to recondition properly
Ebay sometimes has motors that seem ok on paper and in the pic for that price & hp range.
You could probably get another 10-15years out of a full rebuild/replacement powerhead considering you will replacing with another carb 2 stroke anyway, not really a trade up regardless of year/make. Especially so considering the good work you did on it
mate opened the inpection plates and recons it just the rings on that cylinder. Big job for me. That plus no power trim and tilt, probs with reverse and the motor is 38years old. Fix something now and something is likely to go wrong later on.
I think it's just time to move on. Sell on ebay starting at $400, will be happy with 500 bucks. It can be fixed, I just can't be bothered.
I think the "Force" outboards are made by Chrysler. I don't think they're really a "mainstream" brand, parts might be a little more difficult to find - don't know much more than that about them though
Apparently Mercury bought Force from Chrysler around the early nineties. My understanding is they then used a Chrysler (usmarine) powerhead with a Mercury leg. Either way, pretty sure they're no longer in production
Tengals a early 90s Yammy would be worth about 2500, for 5000 odd you should find a good middle to late 90s 90, around 6500 for an early 2000 model
Be carefull the early yammys were rough units with a few short cuts taken not sure when they pulled the quality issues up, from memory one way to tell if you have the bad years is to look at the shift rod viewed through one of the holes in the leg if it is rusty then skip the engine although it had probably been replaced with an ss one by now anyway. There were other problems also but I forget someone else might know. cheers nq
that handy to know, i'll look for that thanks.
I just need to find the right motor, i'd be open to anything at the moment.
BTE I have just posted my old merc up on ebay. Great motor, ran fantasic, I just can't be bothered changing the rings.
