PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant VBA_SCRIPT - assumed 'VBA_SCRIPT' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in ..../includes/functions_navigation.php(802) : eval()'d code on line 1 Combo sounder/GPS
Am buying a new boat and have to decide whether to go for a separate GPS and Sounder or a combination unit. Always have had separate units because I think that at least if one stuffs up the other will be of some use. Problem is that there is limited dash room in this new boat.
Biggest problem I can see is the limited screen room when you use split screen mode. Do people find this a drama? Any other problems anyone's found?
Was looking at Hummingbird Matrix series. Any comments of these?

I had a humminbird matrix20 and very average unit.
Purchased a Lowrance lms330c last year. Color unit and it is BRILLIANT. Plotter is good and easy to switch from plotter to sounder.
Also lowrance hold your trails when you disconnect power. Still there when you launch in dark or fog next trip. Most brands lose the trails when you turn of batteries. It is now a lms332c and will cost about $1600 with maping.
I got a Matrix 20 late last year and I am pretty happy with it. This came with the boat I bought and has the GPS and WeatherSense on it. I did have a failure with the unit where the depth wasn't reading correctly - BLA fixed it under warranty within 1 week (great service).
I mostly fish inshore so the GPS is mainly used for storing entrances to shallow bays, and tracks for night trips. The barometric pressure has been useful, especially since I have started recording this sort of information. I find the detail good - but again I rarely go in water over 10 metres.
