    Finally have a New Trailer

I know it's only a new trailer, but if you had have seen the old one.

Don't need much of excuse to post a pic of my pride and joy, well one of them anyway. This should make it easier for me at the Coffs Harbour boat ramp, as a drive onto trailer.

The keel supporting rollers on the old trailer hadn't turned round for a few years, so winching the boat on was bloody hard.

When towing it back from Coffs yesterday, I could hardly feel the trailer and boat, huge difference to the old one which was must have been too small and too light for the Seafarer.

So... I've started giving the boat it's annual polish this afternoon, using a standard car polish.

I think I can do better with a bit of advice here.

What is around out there that will do the job better than the product I'm using.

    Hi Dave,

That's exactly what I was using but I not very pleased with the result this time.

Heath, do you have a problem with that?

how are you dave, that is the same trailer i have just got under my boat, had one in the territory and it performed incredible ,many trips on the corro roads and not one fault, replaced a belco(wont go there though) .i use inox spray on mine but you have to be careful in the hot months as there is a fungus that grows on it and it makes the trailer look a bit dark, nothing to worry about though ,a bit of a scrub with industrial cleaner once a year and it looks great.polish sounds quite a hard way to go how long does it take to apply.cheers allan

    Hi Kev,

I can't tell you exactly until I go and have a look at the paperwork, but it is well under the required weight. Will get back to you.

    Allan,

I have told not to spray anything on the gal, and in particular Lanolin spray, just wash the salt water off after going fishing and leave it at that.

    Roz,

I am a little concerned with the blue rollers on the trailer they are a bit hard for a fibreglass boat, ok for plate boats but can chip the gelcoat.

I think from memory that red is medium to hard, and black is softer..maybe someone else can add to this.

    Otherwise a very nice trailer.

    Cheers.

Re: Finally have a New Trailer

I use CRC Re-Po car care Non Silicone Auto Polich and cleaner first, & then give her a coat of Kitten Wax as a finish.

Leaves her smooth as silk.......and as shiny as a mirror. I find that the polish & cleaner is'nt course or gravelly and easily removes any grime built up between jobs.

May the seas buffet gently upon your hull
May your chiller be full of piscatorial delights

Another one is Nu Finish lasts very well, easy on and off and buffs up fast.

Red is for glass, blue is for tin. Tin will cut red and blue may or may not hurt the glass, just keep an eye on the hull for dints where it sits on each roller.

    cheers fnq

Re: Finally have a New Trailer

    Rajawolf & FNQcairns,

Thank you for your comments, I had problems with the rollers on the old trailer wearing through the gelcoat (I'm sorry if the spelling is wrong), I was forever patching with flowcoat, I am assured by the dealer that the skids will be fine. He has the same thing for his fibreglass boat.

If there is a problem, it will show up over the next few weeks, as I am towing the boat up to Agnes, and from here it will take me 13 hours one way.

I am also thinking that the skids are a lot more stable than rollers, I've noticed more and more boats like mine being launched from trailers fitted with skids.

Also a friend of mine who is a boat carrier swears by them, he has fewer problems with glass boats on skids v's rollers.

    Only time will tell ey.

I really want to hear all the for and against arguements guys.

    Bosunsmate,

I was using the kitten No.1 this arvo, maybe I need more of a cutting polish.
