does anyone know or know of website regarding break backs for boat trailers.... what i need to know do you need a locking pin tp lock the break or is the boat enough to hold the break shut obviously i have a plate welded to the top so it can only pivot one way.....
I've only had one tilt trailer and when the boat was at the winch post the weight of the boat held the tilt closed and the pin locks it in place .
It should not take much movement for the boat to become tail heavy and therefore launch itself ,from memory mine was only about 2 or 3 inches and the trailer would tilt
Mind you thats the only tilt trailer I've used so other opinions may vary.

I always forget about my tilting trailer...sometimes i struggle to get the boat on the trailer...and after i have broken my back ...i remember i have a tilt trailer.
My first boat had a tilt with locking pin. Don't know about the safety as you have a safety on the rig but you should have a safety pin I would have thought.
Don't know if it's true but someone told me the tilt trailers were now illegal as some people were knocked up under the chin when they use the tilt feature to launch. (Who uses theirs to launch???)
When they push the bow to lauch the boat and when the trailer tilts in a hurry the bow comes straight up under the chin and thumps you better then Mick Tyson.
I personally don't use mine to retrieve, but if I need to it's there.
Anybody know if this is true??
