    Trailer repairs

I need to replace the axle and springs on the trailer but would prefer remoning the boat first (a heavy 4.1 tinny). Do you think I could drop it on the grass, do the repars , and then get it back on the trailer? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thats where I put my 20 foot glass, tinnies are not that heavy. If your worried put a couple of tyres under it.

I also put my glass onto tyres..tied a rope to the transom hooks and then to a tree..and moved off slow....only used the rope cause the roller pins were rusted bad and did not roll at all.....replaced now with stainless steel roller pins.

When you are putting boat back on trailer, and if your yard is flat...leave your car out of gear with motor off, place brick under front wheels so car cant move forward and wind winch till trailer is under boat, remove tyres from under boat as you go ...saves dragging boat.

I have done this many times .....BUT please use common sense.

    Cheers,
    Tony

What they said, tyres under the stern , to land on, usually two high, and a couple of single ones, under the keel as she come off.
Two 20 litre drums, with the screw on 50 mm lids in place, slip these under each side to hold the oldgirl upright.

Tying to a tree is a great option, if there is roller problems, otherwise, push the old girl off normally, so as to land on the first lot of tyres. Have confidence, it really is that easy.

Oh yeh, I forgot. Winding the trailer back under the boat, is a great way to go, as was previously posted . Just line up the trailer, and winch away, and the trailer will work its way under.
Dont forget to remove the tyres, as you go, so they dont get caught up.

Mine was a 1 man job. Slow and steady wins the race.

Took 10 minutes to get off and 5 to get back on.

The trailer was unhitched both ways and the hardest bit was the initial movement to get the boat off then just unwinch it off.

    Cheers
    Chris
