Ditch it & use spectra rope.

You won't go back to wire rope after using it.

When you come to replacement of the cable use "Mountain Climbing Rope". I bought some of this rope and its just fabulous. Its super extra strong and easy to attach to the winch and the hook. Its cheaper than Spectre rope and will last for yonks. I bought my rope from one of those wall climbing fun places that kids go to. The people there stock all the genuine gear for mountain climbing. Give it a try, you will never use anything else.
