    Hi angler, i have a 4.3 also. it will porpoise in certain conditions. i just mucked around with the trim & it has stopped with practice. you will also work it out, good excuse to take it out more

    A mate has had the 4.3 and now the 4.6 and both have been fitted with the SE Sport foil. I wouldn't risk anything else on a cat seeing as his work.

    4.3m with 50hp Yammie 4/.
    Never had a problem with porpoising, but used to struggle to the plane with big loads, and bow high onto the plane.
    Fitted a plastic foil to discover a whole new better behaved vessel.
    Would reccomend them on this hul;l to anyone that asked.

    BTW...i'm generally well and trully over half way trimmed out at speed, only trim in to get onto the plane...

    i forgot to mention, i spoke to the blokes at solas props, they repropped my motor Merc 40 2 st, made such a big difference to the standard one i did not get around to the foil (as recommended by punkin) it's now back on my shopping list..

    Don't own one, but nearly bought one once.
    The guy who owned it said the height of the motor (depth of prop in water) was critical to performance and handling and he had to dick around with it a fair bit to get it right. It had no foil and performed well in my test drive.
    Was a 4.3 with a 50 Honda. Just a thought

    Now ya got me thinkin....prop..mmm
    It's a solas, it's got extra,extra cupping (sent it back the first time) and it's a corker.
    Steve at Solas also reccomended to me to play with the motor height (ultra long leg) but i haven't got around to it yet

    I get around 22-23 knots at 5700...(heavy buggerwith the fitout)

    thanks punkin do you have the ultra long leg or is what solas said you might need because that is what i was thiking i might need. i get 22mph at 5000 rpm.

    Re: webster twin fisher

    Angler Dose your boat have the 300mm extended pods at the rear??

    If not then a foil will assist. Suggest Permitrim as it extends further out than wings thefore a bit more "leverage"

    If it dose have the pods then the main problem is trim. If driving with the motor trimed all the way in then it is trying to push the nose down. With the natural tendancy for the nose to want to lift then it begins to porpose as one end reacts against the other.

    Normal trim setting is 3 - 5 bars

    In respect to speed , mine is a 4.6mt with a 70 2s & standard 15" Yammie prop.
    4000rpm = 19 - 20 mph
    5400rpm = 28mph

    Re: webster twin fisher

    I have had a Webster Runabout 4.6 with a Yamaha 60 HP 4stroke ultra long leg for 2 years now and with about 90 hrs finally up on the clock my trimming is improving.

    I still occassionally get porposing in short chop conditions but it is due to my lack of expertise in trimming.

    I have added a Permatrim to my motor and this has certaining helped.

    My boat has the pods.

    I also have a solas propellar with extra cupping of 11" but since putting the Permatrim on I have gone back to using the 13" that came with the motor on their recomendation.

    I am still trialling both props and my set up.

    Weight on board and placement of it certainly makes a difference.

    I have to keep reminding myself that as the motor is a 4 stroke the take off is slower and builds, whereas my early 3.4 garnet boat with a 15 HP Mercury 2 stroke used to fly onto the plane. THis does not happen. Mind you once on the plane the Webster feels like she is flying and is enjoying herself.

    Regards

    Claire
