Mate, Some ants built a nest in mine #.

Seem to have a partially clogged speed sensor hole on the front of the leg of my 4S 60HP Yammie. Have tried to clean it out using fine wire but can't seem to get all the crud out. The speed readings are clearly wrong (too low) and get stuck when slowing down. Any suggestions on cleaning out the sensor hole?

Sometimes they get clogged pretty solid (say a piece of wood from hitting a log or stick). I found a small drill bit twisted between the fingers was the go. If the blockage is past the bend you will need to blow it out with compressed air (from the other direction).
Chris.
If past the bend, I have used heavy fishing line to clear blockage in tell tail up to 15 inches up the pipe. Might also be worth a try.

Thanks for the help fellas. Suspect that some decayed wood is the problem. How do I get access so that I can clean it from the other direction?

In the harness that comes out of the outboard you will find a join in the tube that goes from the hole in the leg up through the motor and eventually to the guage on the dash. Just separate this join and blow back down the tube. Hope that helps.

Morlers, I assume the tube is the clear plastic one? Managed to get a lot more debri out by rotating a small drill bit in the hole as suggested by Chris, but would like to give it a blast of air as well.
Cheers

Mine has a black tube. I would assume it could also be a clear one. Try to follow it through the motor and see if it goes down the leg to check that is the right one.

Many thanks - I found it. Runs down the inside of the leg and is black (joined to a clear tube close to the motor).Originally Posted by Morlers
