I dont know about smashing a stubbie over it ...when I was replacing the gunwale rubbers, while putting #the end caps on... I helped it along with a hammer ...I missed and put a hole in the side of the boat...just a little hiccup. :-

Rhys..I am a praying man now.

Yeah, the ausfishers helped me out with the names on both my boats. They also convinced me and the deckie to spalsh out and buy the Whittley.

The naming ceremony was a quiet (incomplete) affair as we were both still in shock from spending that kind of money The most we'd ever spent before (apart from buying a house) was 9 grand on a car.

The remainder of the naming ceremony (the christening......if you know what I mean ) may come too late as I am no spring chicken and unfortunately, me and the deckie haven't been alone (without kids) once in 12 yrs and we can't see that happening for some time to come. We may get lucky and manage a quick christening if the kids ever decide to take a stroll on the beach or something and leave us alone on the water

    Hi Pinhead,

    What does TMD stand for?

I did not have a naming ceremony for my boat. #Great idea though.

The one thing I am supersticious about is wearing my greenstone hook with twist when out in the boat.

When I dont wear it, I have trouble. #If I am wearing it on the water everything is fine no matter what the weather is like.

I think I will plan a belated naming ceremony just for the excuse of having a party.

Cheers to you all and Merry Christmas.

I had the boat below for over a dozen years and it never occurred to me to give it a name. We had plenty of bubbly and beer on board but wet ourselves with it and not the boat.

I would bother about giving a yacht a name but could not care that much about the stink boat unless it was something grand enough to warrant a name.

a short story behind the name Saphire...I bought the boat with money from inheritence when my parents passed away...as they were astute with money and the old man always told me to make sure I enjoy the inheritence when he went...we decided to name it Thanks Mum & Dad

Did the bubbly, popped the cork on the water, and had the pics taken.

    Worth the memory.

"Junior" was christened and blooded down at Evans on boxing day. Had some funny looks tipping beer over the bow and then everybody drinking the rest of the beer whilst putting up the river to get some yabbies.
A bit/lot more beer was drunk that arvo when we got home to clean the fish/boat
    Life is good.

Yes Ros and i did the whole thing, named the boat Serene-lady,had the church minister do the blessing on launch day and then had my first drink in 7 years, I even gave up fishing for 5 years and 3 months. That was the time it took to complete because we were both working full time and only had nights and weekends and hollidays to do boat building. Even then we had 2 boilermakers do the hull and fit out the engine rooms. The story about the beer was we had to sell our home to finace the boat. When we sold we looked around for something to buy but ended up doing a plan of our own. Well it got bigger and bigger.and way past our budget, so on the day we decided to commit to the project i said i would not have a drink until launch day. Well it took 1 year 9 months by the time we had plans drawn up and found somewere to build plus Roses dad became very sick and she did not want to think about boats at the time. Anyway.i stuck with my promise.and i did enjoy that first beer on launch day, i also ended up with 2 mt of back deck to fish off and she got 15 mt of house so after all that i was not taking any chancea.
