    Cruisecraft Explorer 500

Hi guys, new to the site and looking forward to talking to you. I have just ordered a new Cruisecraft 500 Explorer with a Yammie 115 4/. I hope I have made the right choice going from a Seajay 3.95 angler with a 25hp. Any advice would be nice

I've got one with a Yamaha 100 hp 4 stroke, no real advice needed, they are a real good bay boat and offshore provided the weather is right, I generally only fish outside, Stradbroke and Moreton by crossing the south passage bar.
If you are inexperienced and expect to cross that or any bar please go and do Bill Cortens bar crossing course, well worth the money.

The boat is extremely stable, but will bash a little in the rougher water, there has to be a compromise somewhere in the hull design, whereas a Haines will generally ride better but not be as stable etc.

I took the back seat out of mine to gve me maximum fishing room.
I am sue you will enjoy the boat and congratulations.

Please post up some pics when you collect her.
May your rod bend often, and good luck blodding her in..

    Cheers Ryan..

Great Boat I've had mine for four years and find it a very stable fishing boat, they ride a bit rougher than the 6 metre jobs in the slop but are just as capable.

The Explorers are excellent craft and handle the bay well. They are great in a following sea.
The 500 with a 4 stroke is a great choice and will bring you years of cheap boating fuel wise.

I was looking at a few boats, Bar Crusher, Haines and Cruisecraft. I made my choice based on comments from you guys in previous discussions posted on Ausfish.com.au. Cruisecraft have a 7 year structure warranty, positive floatation and a re finished off quite well. I have booked into Bill Cortons course on Feb 19th and should take delivery of my cruisecraft in about five weeks. Thanks guys and I look forward to communicating with on a regular basis.

Cruisecraft Explorer will still fit in a double garage and approx $10,000 less that the 600 models when you complete their setup.

    Marcus,

I have a late '99 model CC500 with a 90hp 2/ Jono that has done 500 hours. It is in the shop being fitted out for a new Yammie 100 4/-. Full tilt with a 13x19 SS prop was 37 knots, 26 knots at 4000 rpm.

First used out of Cairns light tackle Game fishing, and would regularly run 30nm out to Lindan bank and troll all day for Billies (best about 350 lb). Many a run was done in 15-20 knot seas, and the boat handled it well - not as fast as the 6-7m hulls, but then trimmed for comfort rather then flogging ones back. Last 4 years in Brisbane has been offshore, thru the Straddie bar a lot, Hutchies wide and also out to 50's off Goldcoast and find I can be out there when the 6m boats are, just a bit more uncomfortable, but a great seaworthy hull that will give you lots of confidence when it is shitty.

I think you will be a surprised at how good they can be.

Nick, that is really encouraging. I new to boating and I hope I draw on the experience of Ausfish members for advice. Maintenance is a question that I have. How often do you polish the boat and what polishes do you recommend?

    Marcus,

Polishing hull really depends on where it is stored. Out of the sun helps, and keeping it grime free reduces oxidation of gel coat. I use 3M Wax and polish (about $20 at Whitworths) about 3x/yr. Brings it back like new

    Marcus,
    as Nick said,
I ditto, 3m - fantastic, Bill Corten put me onto it.
I thought my gel coat was as white as white, however being a fuss pot with a new 6 mth old rig, I bought the 3m product, and could not believe the difference it made.
I have a full length cover too, but it bought the white back to white, and the navy back sparkling.
    It seems a brilliant product.

    Cheers Ryan..
