What size motor for 10 footer

    Hi ausfishers,

I have a ten foot tinnie with a 98 model 4 horse mercury on it but want to be able to plain. I am thinking of upgrading to anything from 6 to 15 horsepower, what do you all think about the best size for my boat.

PS if anybody has a cheap older outboard or wants to swap or buy my mercury for $450.00 please let me know. I also have an old 4 horse johno approx late seventies model that runs well $ 100.00.

    Cheers Pritch

I reckon a 10hp would do the trick
    I have a 81 johno 9.9 hp on a 12 foot brooker
with me and 20l fuel in boat = 35kmh
    2 people plus 40l fuel = 20kmh
    cheers

    hi pritch

whats the max hp rating of the tinny?
from my experience + from what i have read here it is best to go max on something like this if you can . that way you will never be wanting until you see that bigger boat

    cheers dan
