Why does it always go in THREES!!

Whenever my boat has extended periods of no use, the very next time it gets wet I have a series of problems, usually three at a time.

This time the power trim motor fried itself, the eye and bolt where the whinch and safty D shackle attach clean snapped through ( lucky I had a tie down strap holding the boat on the trailer while going down the highway when it happened!!) and my simple, yet usually trouble free steering cable broke.

I don't know what else can go wrong with this money pit, last year it was the stater, the cdi pack, and the flywheel all had to be replaced. I can hear the advice coming down from friends and family... "It's time to sell the thing!!" I have a problem with that. I have replaced that much over the years surely there will come a time when there's nothing left to replace And I am thinking that some other lucky buggar would end up with a great boat that I spent all the money on getting things fixed >

My wife has been keeping a tally. The boat I bought for $5000.00 15 years ago now owes us about triple that. I keep telling her I have used about $30,000 of enjoyment, but does she understand??

She lets me out to play in it so that's all that matters I suppose!!

I alway reckon that the sweetest sound on the planet is the sound of an outboard motor starting at the first turn of the key.

Your wife is not sending you signals that you should go out and spend some real money to buy a flash new boat that she would feel more comfortable knowing you were in, is she???

Mate, me and my dad have an old 12 foot tinny with a 9.9 johnson. Its old, and we have nearly spend as much fixing the motor than what we bought it for, not to metion the fact the boat leaks like a seive. The last time we took it out was in January and while out there a small pin in the gear selecter broke, then in march i decided to start it just to turn it over and the retracter on the pull start broke, this is the second time this had happened in the last 12 months. We got it fixed a couple of weeks ago and tried turning it over and the pull start broke again. We plan to take it back to the dealer next week but we have since decided to sell the boat(which is a done deal with a mate) and get the motor fixed and sell it cheap seperatly. Towards the end of the year we'll get a new boat. So for the next few months I probably won't get to do as much fishing but I think its going to be worth the wait to have a reliable tinny that wont cost as much big boat to run.

    cheers jono

p.s does anyone know how to fix outboards coz they might be able to get one for cheap.
