Hey Kilo11, with a 4 stroke, especially a 15 or 20hp on this boat, it may be underpowered. They are heavier and tend not to perform as good as 2 strokes. If you are going to do a lot of trolling, then the fumes may become a problem. If you're not going to be doing a lot of trolling, then you will barely smell the fumes, unless doing 5 knots with a following wind. The honda 15hp and 20hp are essentially the same motor but the 20hp is uprated. Have a read of some reviews of them http://boatpoint.ninemsn.com.au/port...opDefault.aspx

If I had to buy a 25 or 30hp 4 stroke, then I would go for the Tohatsu 25/30hp EFI 4 stroke. It's extremely light for a 4 stroke 30 and it would be wortwhile to get a price. The new tohatsu 25/30hp EFI 4 stroke is identical to the new Mercury/Mariner 25/30hp 4 stroke by the way. Though keep in mind a 4 stroke will cost more to service and there is more to go wrong, but these days most are pretty reliable. Most in your situation would opt for a 2 stroke-why? $$, because I am sure you know how much more expensive the 4 stroke is over the 2 stroke, and that the 4s is more to service. Don't get me wrong, I would love a 30hp EFI 4 stroke on my tinny, quietness and superb fuel economy, but not for the price tag. In reality, I only ever smell my 2 stroke fumes when puttering along slowly with following breeze or if I leave the motor in idle and then the fumes start to drift my way. If your wife really wants a 4 stroke, then you're in for more $$, but you get a very smooth and quiet engine with awesome fuel economy. Cheers, Joey.
