    My new rig!

Finally got my new rig last week, something I have had the money for and been trying to organise for last 8 months!

Ocean Whaler 565 GRP Tri hull CC, 90 hp 2st Merc, Completely foam filled gunnels and under floor, inbuilt 70ltr fibre glass tank, self draining deck, WOT just over 40 knots and what a smooth ride!

Watch your fuel consumption 70L is not a big tank.

Top rig, looks like the Aussie Whalers, which were modelled on the Boston Whaler concept, unsinkable hull. Awesome stability and handling.
sounds like the tank and motor are a bit on the small side tho. regards

    Re: My new rig!

Yet to see how economical it is, but in consideration to the hull design and how it sits on the water and aqauplanes across the water I was told that it would use less fuel in comparison to a V hull of the same size with the same donk due to less drag in the water! The Hull actually averages out in weight at 550kg before fit out and the max recommended motor size for the transom by the manufacturer is a 90 hp.

The yard where I bought the boat have put out a couple with 115 hp Jono's on the back and the transom seemed to handle it, and got the rig up over 50 knots. But apparently thet reckon its just those people in the eastern states that have a habit of overpowing vessels for unnecessary reasons

Ok jimbo, you're probably right about us Eastern Staters, I have seen a smaller one 5.35m I think, that carried a 115hp.
550kg is light for a 5.65m glass hull, I was way off on my estimate.
    cheers

    Nice rig Jimbo,

I know how frustrating the wait can be . I've had mine on order since Feb. Hopefully be able to post it up here in a couple of weeks.

    Awesome rig mate, have fun.

Seen an idiot on this side of the pond who went and put two 115's on a boat of similar design and size. Yes, the transome was rebuilt within a year.

Now the spending will begin T-top, rocket launcher, outriggers etc.

    Enjoy it
