    Ahoj,

I have a 1983 model 4hp Johno on my boys boat.. they luv it.. it's also a points type ignition system

Just cause I play with outboards may be a good reason why it runs so well tho

Ahoj , used to have 4 hp yamaha 4 stroker .
It did not stroke much , most gutless thing i have everhad.
Just hire/borrow outboard one for the day to try it out.
I think it might be all right on the beast , but thats a 33% drop in kick in the pants power are you sure you want to reduce.?????

Re: How good and reliable are 4HP outboards

Well i am thinking Saurian ( quite exeptional lately) 4 hp will be just fine and no need to register and i assume it will still fly because i am only using about 30% of 6 HP yammy to bring it to top speed 20-24Km/h) ( estimate and comparisson) in order to make it fly --- really would need some short wings --- Cats are designed to be reasonably fast and stable I am achieving maximum ecconomy with best speed at maximum comfore and stability One has to stay within these bounderies in order to make the best out of minimum cost... meaning what this project is design to achieve.. The hulls from Calypso sailing cats are so efficient and so well designed that it takes bugger all to push it along its buoyancy is incredible and filled with styrene all the way can be considered unsinkable as it has separate compartments in Hulls...
When I start selling the cats I can sell them with or without motors If buyers wish to use their own ..

In the mean time i am having good time and all my costruction and plans are falling into place nicely... Ahoj

Re: How good and reliable are 4HP outboards

    G'day
Ahoj, I used to have a calypso caper cat up until a couple of years ago. Damn they were fun!!!! Cheap to run aswell, especially with sails . I has mine with an outboard bracket and even with a 2hp yamaha, she would be quite fast. As you know, very well designed hulls. Correct me if i'm wrong but wern't the caper cats rated to a 4hp?.

I never heard of any rating but i am thinking 4 hp for 4m is enough and 6 hp for 5 meter is just correct.. so whatever the rating i am sure to be close Thanks for your input --blackened
