Re: Keel Guard???
i had one on for a couple of years and they seem to save the keel when beaching the boat. Trouble was that the adhesive wasn't that good as it kept coming away in parts. Took it off in the end.

Re: Keel Guard???
I have one on my Haines 6.8 m -- does a good job protecting the boat while driving the boat onto trailer. Have had it on for about eight years. It has some serious gouges in it -- so must have saved the boat at some time. Contact the people at Sundown Marine -- they know who supplies it. It is a good idea to get them to fit it to preserve warranty just in case you do have a problem.

Re: Keel Guard???
I too had a bad experience with keel gaurd. Followed the instructions to the letter, but after the first trip $300 worth of keel gaurd were lying on the bottom of Darwin Harbour. Didn't even hit anything!!! Great idea in principle, just didn't work

Re: Keel Guard???
Same here I had keel guard on my boat for about 3 months without any problems then for no reason the adhesive started letting go no idea why but like Joe N I peeled mine off aswell . Seemed like a good idea at the time just didnt last .

Re: Keel Guard???
My brother and his mate got a marine shop to install a strip of stainless steel along the keel. Bit more expensive than "Keel Guard" but prob more durable and looks alright too.

Re: Keel Guard???
Traditionally a brass strip was used for this purpose - plus acted as a grounding plate

Re: Keel Guard???
Had used keel guard on my first boat, excellent product, had a slight problem with it starting to peel off at the bottom end where it would hit on the roller. You really have to take your time and install it properly, ideally the strip has to be nice and soft when bending it round the keel [lie it out in the sun/heat gun, careful not to overheat].
When I went to buy another one they were not available, I believe they were withdrawn due to glue/contact issues.Having said that I would buy another.
Cheers Troy.

Re: Keel Guard???
Keelshield is now here. Similar to keelguard
about $220 diy. It has a 3m adhesive and you have to take some care pre cleaning but it seems to have the bugs with the glue ironed out Some boats have it as an oem acessory.
