If men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, politicians must be from uranus ?
Excellent topic.
I come from a family with strong southern European culture. All of my forefathers were either fisherman or farmers. To this day, things are still done the historic way when it comes to sowing the land or sea. Except, the fishing nets....
Until last year, the family boat consisted of a 4.7m alloy tinnie that was so old, the hull had been re-welded several times along the keel and the entire floor ribbing and rivets were siliconed to stop the leaks. Canopy was a tarp stretched with occy-straps and no fish finder, gps. There was 1 fishing rod with a k-mart el cheapo reel, the rest of the tackle was hand lines.
Boat was used by my grandfather, father and myself with my family. I can remember only coming home twice without a feed of fish!! We use line of sight to find our spots, and when going for King george whiting, the way we find our drops is by looking at the water to locate the sand patches amongst the weed!!
When we go crabbing, it's even more traditional! Old baby baths and butchers tubs are used with rope, hand rakes have been welded by hand and connected to broom sticks. Razor fish extractors are made from some old broken garden tools.
The anchor we own is a home made job, made from mild steel. 22 years on, it's still going, the pick bends out of rocky reefs and holds in sand extremely well as there is 15m of light chain connected!
The only problem with our methods is the fact you are so damn tired at the end of a days fishing. Hauling the pick is a good workout.
I loved it and it was a shame to sell the old girl. But there's only so much silicon you can put in a boat!!!
My thoughts exactly aussiefool. And thanks for giving us a look at your pride and joy.Originally Posted by Dirtysanchez

Tight lines everyone
Rainbow Trout is NOT skittle flavoured fish.........
I know a few people who will not go fishing until they read a few good fishing reports (on the internet of course).
Sure we fish out of this little old cracker - dad & I built in 1969 /70 for the first big trip to Yamba - from Sydney which was a hell of a haul in those days. Motor is original 10hp Merc 2 stroke purchased in 1969, still have paper work, dockets, manual etc.
We cruise around the Maroochy River and anchor up somewhere that looks fishy and float baits down a berley trail - nothing else to it. The only problem is that its harder getting away from people these days and they make all the noise.
this boat has caught bream at yamba, whiting in illawarra, red bream in Burrill lake, black bream around church point in sydney, flathead on the hawksbury and more in between. Its great all the comments we get on the old boat after I spruced it up with a new navy blue & white job.
Good thread

Phill,
that little boat is indeed a ripper!
Good on ya for keeping it in such good condition and that paint job sure makes it look classy.
I love these kind of posts. Thanks for sharing mate.

you are all game (refering to the sexaflex) but how true there is nothing like a NOT TOO COMPLICATED FISHING AND BOATING and it don't cost the earth ---when i first signed up with ausfish I was advocating small motors and boats ecconomical stuff some didn't like it and some said nothing but i knew deep down that the time will come for smaller setups there is just no need to go over15 ft and 25 Hp. the boat you want to catch Marlin and or deep sea fish you hire and enjoy to be free.... and if you prefer a bit of flathead or whiting there are places to go and fish with small rig.... the next problem is to find the WATER to fish in.
