Re: ally craft- owners please respond

    Alex,
I had a 425 alley craft and it went quite well with a 40 merc on it.
Being a sea going person it went off palmy quite often without any problems.
Just reading quickly through the other replies the quintrex, stacer and alley craft are all the same design but the alley craft is made at currumbin on the gold coast.
I do not think it matters what tinny you have they are all subject to a crack here and there. A quick run over with an alley welder and all fixed.
My 525 stacer i just traded in went to sea all the time and in some not so nice weather and it didn't worry it.

Re: ally craft- owners please respond

I have recently bought a 4.5m allycraft tank, and a tank is exactly what it is. Lots of beam and lots of free board. It carries it's beam a long way forward so as a result is does pound a little if you do not drive to the conditions. But so does every tinny. It's greatest qualities are the stability at rest and heaps of deck space. With a bit of custome fitting it will also have plenty of storage space. With the extra ribs and 3mm all round it is sort of half way between a pressed and plate alloy tinny in construction. I take it offshore regularly (in north QLD) and it is a great fishing boat.

Just as an extra note: here are my thoughts on the trade off between a boat which has a more comfortable ride (narrow with a deep V) vs a boat more stable at anchor (wide with less of a V). I guess you could assume an average off shore day fishing trip involves about 2 hours of driving and 6-8 hours of fishing. If you own a beamier style of boat, like an allycraft, and the weather conditions are not so great wouldn't it be better to back off on the throtle and drive to the conditions. That way it may take an extra 15-20 minutes to get to and from the fishing spot, but that extra beam and flater hull will make the rest of the day in a lot more comfortable. So many times I have been out in mates boats and they are determined to drive flat out regardles of the conditions. That is just my opinion.
