    Spray painting kit for tinny

Just bought a spray painting gun and having trouble with the paint as it is not coming out of the gun constantly.
Has it anything to do with the regulator as i bought the compressor with the kit.
    Thanks

What sort of paint are you using? most paints to spray paint are diluted 50/50 make sure you have a correct thinner to do the job for a particullar paint ---what is wrong with a brush? it sticks better and its a good exercise

Preparation is most important need to clean the alu thoroughly then use etch primer then couple coats of recommended paint of your choice. I used Weatherfast Marine Enamel (Modified polyurethene) Mine looks good and goes reasonably hard after 2 coats and 4 days drying time... see sample

Would not a brush leave brush marks and would a spray gon give a better finish.
But that is not the problem as i have juat bought the compressor and the kit i used some ceiling paint to test it out.
What is happening is when you press the trigger only air comes out and no paint .
Tried adjusting the trigger while pressing it in and releasing the brass nob.Started working but not continuously.

what brand o gun did you buy. is it gravity or suction fed? the top adjuster is usally for fan control, at about 30cm from the substrate you would need a fan width of about 15 cm. next adjuster down is the fluid control. wound alll tyhe way way in it will let no paint out. wound alll the way out will acheive the most fluid. set it at about half way, then adjust from there. if possiuble post a pic of your setup, and i'll have a better idea on 2whats goin on and to rectify it!

    Lippa,
The gun came in a kit so i will have to have a look at the box.
The part you said to wind all the way out is what i said got paint to come out but i was not game to screw it all the way in case it came off all together,
I have not got the set up for putting up pics so sorry for that and thanks for trying to help.

its ok to wind it all the way. it is spring loaded but not under much presure the spring is there for the fluid needle return. how thick is the material you are wishing to spray? ceiling paint i would sugest would need to be reduced by 50% other types of paint may only need to be reduced by up to 10%. it is really important to clean the gun super well. cheper guns have mild steel compomets and by spraying water based paints through it will cause scaly rust to form. gun needs to be cleaned with water, then copius amounts of metho to rid the gun of any water.

how much did gun cost you. what compressor u got. if u wind out spring all the way and end comes out, no worries just screw back in . theres no pressure. check the bottom of handle to check to see if air is opened up enough. should be air control winder at bottom of gun. what lippa says is correct. what type of paint r u spraying? those small compressors only hold so much air but should be fine. its just a matter of gun set up, whether ur spraying enamel, 2pac or acrylic. dont do boat in enamel. looks good at first but then turns to shit. do in 2 pac. no difference in actual spraying. just get right paint, hardener and thinners.
if u need any help with the paint give me a ring, as i sell all auto paints.

    cheers

    Seahorse,
The compresor is 2.5 hp and the kit that came with it only cost $40.00.
I only tried old ceiling paint as to see how i would go when i start painting my tinny.

Plastic paint-- oil paints -- dilution ---need min 110 psi continuous preassure best way to test the sparay gun if it works is to fill it with you favourite vino and aim at your mouth by the time the container empties and you drunk the gun works a OK
