    Boat pulls to the right?

    Hi Guys,
I'm brand new to this so please bare with me. I have had a tinnie for years but have just stepped up to an Allison Angler 195 because I want to get the family out onto the water, and get me oceanside occasionally. It is an older boat with a 140hp Yammie, all in real good nick but it has a habit of pulling to the right which after a day-on-the-bay really wears me out . I am not sure if this is normal or not. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Fred

It can be a trim problem but more likely the little "fin" above the prop will need to be adjusted, but, remember that when you adjust it, do it a bit at a time and you are steering the motor not the boat, so sort of think about which way to move it in your case the rear of the tab needs to be moved to the right (viewed from behind) which will steer the motor to the left ,which will push steering pressure to the left, get it?

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.

make sure you trim your motor up till steering is light also

Silly question, but have you got the motor centred? A slight offset on the transom can also cause crabbing.

    Hi all

    I have a 445 dory with a 50hp Yami , tillar steer.

Mine will also try and steer in one particular direction. I have looked at the
fin above the prop but haven't yet adjusted it.

When looking at the fin it appears to be flat on one side and curved on the other.

Is this to counter the rotation of the motor/prop? or is there another reason.

I will try and attach a photo in the next post.

    Fred,
Good information you have received but the best remedy for your problem would be to fit Non Feedback Steering (about $220) and you'll be back to 1 finger steering.

Geez Guys - Thanks a heap for the info. Much appreciated.
I'll try the fin adjustment, a bit at a time.

Zero feedback steering - It is on the list along with chartplotter, more shade for the family, etc . . . . Hey ! Its only money right?

Again, much appreciated guys - Thanks

Wouldn't the smart thing be to first remidy the cause of the situation? The remedy for this does not require any $$'s spent at all!
