Freedom Seasport
Looking at the new Seasport 6.2mtr that has replaced the Elite.
Thinking of using the Suzuki 140 4Stroke
Boat will be used as family fun boat including sking, fishing mainly inshore till we get more experienced.
Has anyone experience with this boat or seen a boat test done on one.
Also any thoughts on the 140 Suzi as a suitable power for this application appreciated
thanks

Re: Freedom Seasport
Alan i have just bought the exact boat that you are talking about, the freedom seapsort 6.4m. I did alot of research before i bought mine and managed to track down someone else who had bought one a few months ago. Ive also read a few very good reviews. The guy i spoke to that had bought one was absolutely over the moon with his purchase and said that he had previously owned a few haines signature series and that the newly designed hull on the seasport performed as good if not better than the haines. He also told me that he had put on the suzuki 140 and that it was a great size motor for the boat. Unfortuantely i cant tell you about my experiences yet but i only have a week to wait and each day is getting longer !
From what i could find when i was looking around there was nothing that came close for value for money and the resale on the secondhand ones seemed to be right up there from the elites that i found for sale. Where abouts are you and what sort have prices have you been quoted? If i can help you out with anything im more than happy too .

Re: Freedom Seasport
Alan,
At the last boat show at Broadbeach G/Coast i was looking at the freedom 6.4 and it was quite appealing. Plenty of deck room and more than enough bunk room.
They had only just got the hull in and slapped a motor on it for show but i think the package came with a 140 honda? or a 150 suzuki?
It came with bimi top and a lot of other extras for about $43,000.
I thought it was a realy good deal. The only problem they didnt ring me back to go for the demo drive.
Im not knocking them i am still keen on this style of boat and am tossing up between this and another couple of brands if i update.
If you live on or near to the gold coast.
Harland Marshall at runaway bay marine sales was more than helpful and very easy to discuss matters with. He was not a pushy salesman which was a delite.
Phone no for them is 07 5577266 or his mobile 0438733477.

Re: Freedom Seasport
Hey Brutel
would you be able to point me in the direction of some of the reviews as i am having a hell of a time getting details of this model. I have tried the manufacturers website that points you to the dealers website, which is under construction. The dealer on the Gold Coast and down south still have the details of the old model on their site. I know that i am being slightly lazy and should probably drive up or down the coast, but its bloody hard with 2 kids and both working fulltime.

Re: Freedom Seasport
Thanks for your feedbck. I've ordered one $50Kwith all the bits . We live in Brisbane -Cleveland so with the growing fleet of Freedom's out there should hopefully see you on the water. Ours won't be ready till March.
Looking forward to actually getting on the water in one.
Must admit spending this sort of money with out a water test scares the ...... out of me but the feedback has been positive from all that i have spoken to.
Graeme let me know how you go once you get yours in the water.
Great to catch up on the water have a beer and compare notes.

Re: Freedom Seasport
Thanks for the PM Brutul. I have not done enough postings to allow me to reply.
my fax is 3356 9163. I would really appreciate the help. I am still trying to decide which way to go. TABS ocean series or Freedom. I suspect that my better half will probably make my mind up for me. BTW I spoke to James Hill ( editor of trailerboat fisherman ) today who informs me that a full test will be in the next edition. Best I get a subscription.

I had a close look at the ocean series tabs aswell and went through the factory with bruce to have a look around. I couldnt find anyone who had a bad word to say about the tabs boats but the 4 month wait played alot in my consideration. Either way you couldnt go wrong i think, but im no expert at all, i only know what ive been told from asking around. I look forward to reading the review in trailerboat magazine even though i guess its too late for me if they decide its a piece of crap lol.
Ill fax that review for you tomorrow.

Re: Freedom Seasport
I am pretty sure that he is not going to say that it is a piece of crap. I have always found the reviews from this mag to be less gushy than some of the other mags which leads me to believe ( rightly or wrongly ) that he is not saying that a boat is good just because the manufactuer spends lots of $$$$$ in advertising.
Maybe this would be a good idea for a new thread.

Re: Freedom Seasport
Hi Alan,
I've had one for about 5 months too. Had a few teething problems such as the front hatch and side window leaking and a hydraulic steering problem, which is not the boats fault. But the manufacturer and dealer have been very good in fixing everything, no hassles or arguments there. In fact the manufacturer replaced one of the side cabin windows for free, without me even mentioning it, while he was fixing the other problems because I had scratched it.
I do a lot of offshore work now and am going to fit a set of Bennetts hydraulic trim tabs to it soon to improve the ride coming off the top of swells. The nose slaps down fairly hard off the top of swells. No problem if the nose goes straight through the swell/wave, only when the boat rides up the swell. I assume similar boats would have a similar problem. I have it on good authority from another owner in Newcastle that tabs totally solve this problem.
I have a Suzuki DF 175 fitted and am very happy with it.
All in all It's a great all round family/fishing boat and good value.
Send me a PM if you want my Email.
Cheers, Scotty.

Re: Freedom Seasport
Nelton,
Initally purchased the Seasport with 140 Suzuki. Very happy with the boat but disappointed with the performance of the 140. Upgraded to the 175 Suzuki and extremely happy with the result. Tops out at 80KMH and cruises comfortably and economically at 25 - 30 Knts.
We have slept out and found the cabin spacious and comfortable for two.
We've been out in some heavy weather and the boat has handled it well.
Went to the recent boat show and still believe it offers the best value for money.
If you do decide to purchase I'm, sure you won't be disappointed.
We bought the boat without a water test as they were selling as fast as they could build them- put a lot of trust in Harlen from Mustang Marine on the Gold Coast and thankfully paid off.
Were at Cleveland and more than happy to take you out if you haven't had a chance to have a run in one.
Good luck with your decision.
Alan
