Front page news. Apparently husband left wife to fill the boat with fuel and she mistakenly put the nozzle into the rod holder and pumped 136 lt into the bilge. Firecrew were called to hose the hull out.

Here is what I posted on our local website last night.
Here is a good one for you, while I was working down the Slipway today a big bloody gorgeous Cruisecraft gets plucked out of the briny by the Travalift.
Yeah so what I hear you say !!!
Well next thing the Fire service, Police and Ambulance all come charging through the gate with Channel 7 in hot pursuit.
I turned to Kopey and said " Have a gander over here " so we casually wander over to see what we can see.
It turns out the owner of the boat got his wife to refuel the big girl, the problem was that she pumped 130+ litres of petrol into a rod holder ( the type with the rubber cap ).
The Firey's took about 1.5 hours to decant the fuel from the vessel and Kopey was asked in to assist them with lifting the motor, no big deal normally but they couldnt put the power to the Trim & Tilt switch she might have gone bang.
Made the day a bit more interesting.
Cheers

I've heard of that happening before. Almost did it myself early one morning in the dark. The rod holder is black and the fuel filler is black, I was bleary eyed and half asleep, it was lucky the nozzle wouldn't go all the way in and that alerted me. Mates were watching me and laughing, and felt I like an idiot. I've learned my lesson since, I hold the nozzle in one hand and unscrew the filler cap with the other, and the nozzle goes straight in.
So I guess I couldn't hold it against the missus if she did it.

I've cone thaaaaaat close to doing the same thing myself
Early morning start filler & rod holder within inches of each other & both black plastic.
Didn't actually pull the trigger though.

The whole world's mad save thee & me (but I'm not too sure about thee)
Would not be hard to do but lucky she did not fill all the rod holders as my missus probably would do and that is why i do not let her near my boat.

No wonder the divorce rate is so high in Australia
Bloody lucky the auto bilge was in very good working order, no loose wires.

and, the boats a Cruise Craft, by the looks of it
with the price of fuel these days it bring a tear to my eye... plus the clean up costs
Hi all
well we will be looking closer if the girls go to fill up the boats from here on in
mind you my wife never fills my boat only pays for the fuel
i think this one should go on the embarrassing page for the poor couple
if it was me i would be red faced > > > for a while till i came back to earth and seen the funny side of it and tell the wife i will never forget this incident
not to forget telling the neighbours, the wifes friends, guys at the pub or club you go to lifes most embarrassing moment on camera
as for the cost you can not place a life just as well no one was smoking
look good on the insurance report as it is
it is going to look good on that report
can image the report coming back
we will insure you for the future on the conditions as follows
that you never allow wife to refuel boat till re-fueling licence has been aquired from accredited course
but still how to ruin a good day on the water
safety place sign on fuel fill tank only and place sign on rod holder only not fuel fill tank
you would have to laugh and feel sorry for the couple at the same time if me i would be crying , screaming mad > > >, (Maybe) then a day or two later laughing at the whole thing
while trying to cuddle the boss after she has beaten me to death for screaming
Cheers
Steve
Made a similar mistake myself quite a few years ago.
Was out west and had got a lend of a front end loader and stopped at the fuel bowser and instead of fueling the diesel tank i filled the hydrolic tank.
What more can i say.
