Re: White Ants in the Play-Pen

I dont have white ants, but I have a small nest of black ants somewhere
in the bow coming from a small hole.
I dont think their a problem but they do a good job of cleaning up the
    scrapes

Bev & Ross - You're making the rest of us "occasional rebuilders" look really bad!!!

You have both done a bang up job, and it is looking fantastic. I can't wait to see how she looks once you add all the trimming into it...

Re: White Ants in the Play-Pen

I wish I could build a boat like that.

Damn I wish I could fix a trailer like that.

What you as a team (Bev and Ross) (with a lot of support along the way) have achieved takes skill certainly, a few dollars no doubt, but the passion and dedication are attributes I could only ever dream to have.

Ross and Bev, without intention I am sure, you have far exceeded anything I ever expected to gain from Ausfish, from life in fact. You have taught me that with will and determination many seemingly impossible things can be accomplished.

I have started looking out for a discarded small cabin boat to fit out a small boat for my kids, with maybe a small 15hp engine. I have 10years or so to get it finished, but have acquired the inspiration to start. (Many posts to come on what the hell to do next, and I expect many references back to this one)

I know there is someway to go yet, but I wanted to thank you for the impact your project has made.

I am only sorry that I will not be around to meet you in person when the flotilla sees her off, on her maiden voyage. Please Please Please post pics of that day.

    All the very best

And it seems to take so long to put it all back in, every hole you drill there is that element of fear, just hoping that hole is in the right place.
If you put a bit of masking tape where you are drill ing the holes (inside amd out if possible), makes marking easy and keeps srcatching to the minium and the piece on the inside helps stop it cracking as the drill breaks though.
    have a good weekend.
Got Member seabug here from vic for the weekend so I have to go fishing.

You can do anything if you have enough motivation and some sheer determination

Awwww Mike..... thanks You are right, we had no intentions of anything, other than sharing a few pictures of our hungry white ants and some updates. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine this thread would end up how it is. We are still overwhelmed when we see how many times it has been viewed.

If reading this thread has been a bright spot in someone's day, put a smile on someone's dial, encouraged someone to fix something or inspired people such as yourself and BigE into having a go at a rebuild, then it has been worth every minute that I have spent here at the computer uploading & resizing pics and writing reports

    Day 127 - Where is Play-Pen?

You might think we just pulled her out of the shed.... but no, this morning I towed her out the gate and took her on a road trip

Will ya get over it Ross she'll be back in a few days.

Day 128 - To keep himself entertained Ross decided to have a go at making a new bait board and sink with moulds borrowed from our Glass mate.

    Waxing the moulds....

.... and masked up & waxed a pane of glass?

Ross is experimenting.... says he's going to make a fibreglass door for the well.

Day 129 - Gelcoated the moulds

    and the pane of glass

Day 130 - put some layers of fibreglass on the moulds.... then the cat walked over the pane of glass, so Ross had to give his paws an acetone bath!

Sorry guys no pics, I must have forgotten to take the camera down to the shed.

    Day 131 - Picked up Play-Pen

Do you like her new bow rails

wow, its really coming along now, could i suggest maybe some stainless anchor holders on the bow rail to stop them from banging around on the gelcoat deck. what bowspirit are u putting on there. will be keen to see how it performs once youve finished her. any plans for trim tabs?
