I'm totally hooked. Started reading last night and couldn't stop (long story to why not earlier). I am amazed at the work gone into Play Pen. Probably more labour spent rebuilding her than initial construction. You guys are real heros on the Ausfish site. It is great to know of the moral support you have receiving which must have kept you going at times when you really wanted to just stop and maybe take a break. BTW in my younger days when I did fiberglassing always kept a tub of industrial talcum powder handy, 1. grab handfuls and rub into every available part of the body to stop the fibres getting a hold and 2. mixed with resin makes a reasonable paste which used with rovings in corners worked much better than straight resin.

I am looking forward to the launch but then again like everyone else where am I going to get my fix from (and I have only been reading 1 night).

One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce and canonized those who complain.

Day 91 - Easter Sunday..... Ross did half a days work on Play-Pen, then Kingtin & crew arrived with lunch.

Seems we couldn't go to the seafood, they brought the seafood to us.... a scrumptious feed of prawns and mudcrabs.

Day 92 - 98 have been spent preparing the deck. We thought it would be ready by Easter but it was slower going than we expected. If all goes to plan it will be re-gelcoated tomorrow.

This is how Play-Pen looked at the end of day 98....

Thought you and Ross would like to know. In the bug world you have become stars.

PS to the re-build addicts you have always been stars - thanks again for always posting.
Awww, thanks for the compliments Mike

Our white ant invasion is an unusual one, so most people working in the bug world will find it hard to comprehend... but seeing is believing

I'm glad you got your ant problem solved.... and hope the water hasn't caused too much damage in your boat.

Over 200 Hook-It discs were used as well as a lot of sheets. Planing straights had to be done by hand and flat areas between were done with an orbital sander. The sander left swirls that were near impossible to remove.
Hind sight is always 20/20! Adding wax in styrene (get it from your fibreglass supplier) to the gelcoat mix at the same rate as catalyst will seal the surface and make sanding soooo much easier - no clogged discs. [/quote]

We used an additive called patch booster .... which we were told would be better than styrene. Ah well, you live and learn

We can't wait either. I can't believe we are missing out on all these long weekends!! I don't want to get our hopes up too high, but maybe we will be ready for the Queens Birthday weekend.... just hope everyone has left us some crabs by then

Hahaha.... welcome to RAT (Rebuild Addict Thread) Sam. To become a fully fledged member of this club you must encourage all fisherpersons with boat problems to completely REBUILD and report their progress on Ausfish

Man, what a read ... all 26 pages from top to bottom ....

From one rebuild nut to another ... excellent job, you have taken the time to do everything properly which is soooo good to see.

You now have a better than new boat, but gee, doesnt it eat up the man hours when you start on these projects.

I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

    Cheers

Sorry for leaving you in the lurch again guys..... but I'm here now, so on with the update.

    Day 100 - Anzac Day

While I watched dawn services on the telly, Ross and our glass mate were busy in the shed.

Play-Pen masked up and ready for the deck to be gelcoated.

Days 101 - 104 - no progress due to work commitments and Ross helping a fellow boatie friend fix some things on his 30ft Mariner.

Days 105 & 106 - sanding, sanding and more sanding. This is how she was looking yesterday.

I'll be back when the sandings finished
