You had us all worried for a few days there Bev!!!

    It's coming along nicely!

Is there a reason you decided to turn her over and glass underneath everything rather than pre-glassing it before installing it? I'm thinking mainly of the side pockets at the moment...

Totally new to this string, I have just spent an hour reading SOME of it. You have captured the support of sooo many Ausfishers, I would think the day you get the boat wet for the 1st time since the rebuild, you would have to be making a big party of it wouldn't you?

I reckon you should announce it to everyone when it goes in the water, I certainly would not mind being there for the launch!

Or maybe you prefer a quiet champaign together once out on the water, everyone knows you deserve to celebrate any way you want to!

    Well done.

    PAN-PAN; PAN-PAN

I decided to fix my dry hatch (a small cubby hole formed in my centre consol) today, as it had been leaking water, through some peeled back silicon. My dry goods (including spare smokes, and matches) were getting soaked.

I went white ! There were black ants moving a nest, carrying their eggs inside this dark damp hole. I have already sprayed with household insecticide, but am obviously Sh!t scared moving forward.

As for cutting inspection hatches, I already have hatches aft of the boat, and don't want more if I can help it - I can't see anything obvious at the back of the boat.

What have you learned (about black ants), through your earlier research ?

    Indeed. Thanks for the love.

I decided to check that which I could properly. I pulled as many bottles out from each hatch as I could. +/- 30 bottles in all.

How wet (not moist) should the area under the floor boards be, if at all. I found enough water to revive a fish, (at least to make a splash) and I scraped up a palm full of rotten wood.

From inside the insp hatches the wood has "bubbled" from being wet, and 30 cm pieces can be peeled back with a finger nail.

I'd always wondered what extent of damage was going on unseen in relation to my springy floor.

No further ant clues, but definately a new floor will be in order one of these days.

Anyone - What generally is the cause for rotten floors ?

Catchy Fishy - Springy floors are usually caused by the support beams (Stringers, etc) rotting away (Like you've described). This means they don't have a solid 'base' and become a little "bouncy". The fact that the wood is falling apart and bubbled would make me think it's rotten, and needs to be replaced. The simple way to think of it is that they are the main support beams of your boat... What happens if they break from hitting a swell? I'd be replacing it as soon as you can.

Bev - Any more updates? I'm starting to put a list of info I want/need/beg for that I will shoot through to you eventually. Plus had to resurrect this from the bottom of the page
