    A lovely post Mike.

When I suggested to Bev thay Ausfishers may be interested in her starting a thread, I never expected her to approach it with such enthusiasm and for it to grow into this monster

IRL, Bev and Ross are just as willing to share, and have often been a great help to me when things haven't been working out as they should. They are always willing to lend a helping hand and the only thing that I can fault Ross in, is that he drinks that goddam awful Goldie stuff............mind you, he washes it down with a few dozen Cougars

    Bev and Ross,

I have read this thread with great interest at the hard work you both have put in, some of the comments have given me quite a few laughs.....

Excellent Job, Looks like you have quite a steady hand for Jigsawing out the Ply..... and getting it all to fit....

I have one question, which i couldn't see from the photo... the stringers (??? If I have that one right - meaning the lengths of ply that run from the back to the front of the boat) how would the water if it is trapped on the higher side of those stringers easily get down to the centre of the V to enable any trapped water to escape out of the bungs when draining, or are there holes to be drilled after all the stringers have been glassed in to allow the water to drain out especially up the higher side of the Hull.

Keep up the excellent work and running thread.... Man I hope i never over to do something like this, although I have a tinny at the moment, but my last boat was a Haines 146C Glass Half cab and the Transom was stuffed, had no clue how to fix it, So i sold it to a boat place for cheap.

    Cheers

I must say I look foward to updates and comments by others, just think you coulda had that 600mm full pod. credit to you guys (bev and ross) kev too I suppose for moral support and cooking (apart from picking up nessary items, possible giving instructions, what else have ya done Kev. this being said with lots of smilely and humor ). Know what ya going through, lots of fun. Would ya do it aagain (I know its only ealy stages, I said no more glassing and am half way through extending a ute canopy).
the post has turned out some really good pics and explanations for others to learn by.
I been calculatiing your finish date (didnt expect ya to take a day off though) so if you had done 3hrs more a day x 28 days thats 84 man hours (maybe could have got a few outa someone else (Kev ? ) x 2 = a grand total of 168 hours. Ya could have been back on the water.

    cheers

Bugger all Blaze Feeling a bit guilty really They've helped me out often enough.........Oh! I did give 'em a few rags after raiding the kids wardrobes The deckie's shifts and the kids 'n all, I just haven't found the time.....that's my excuse anyway Not much good with me hands anyway.

Ross once said to me, "I'm okay at most things, but you're the wood man Kev" He was a bit dubious about his ability with wood and was about to try pick my brains.....as if! He went ahead and did it on his own bat anyway......made a folding camp kitchen That's a sight to behold, and now his ability with a router Don't think he need worry about working with wood again

Hey Bev! How about a photo of that kitchen? <puts Bev on spot>

    kev

Each of the bulkheads has a heel cut out of it beside the stringer, allowing any water to drain to the stern....

then each stringer has a bung hole under the well.

The bung holes can't be seen as clearly in the photos now that they have been glassed around, but they're definitely there

Glad you're enjoying the thread LousyFisher.... will you change your name when your fishing improves?

So the old saying is true? You should never judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, title

Sorry to disappoint you, but there will be no pic of our glass friend.... all you get is the hand rolling the glass For those who were tuned in early in the piece, there was a brief glimpse of him in Report #2, but I took the pic off within 36 hours as he doesn't want to be recognised. Fibreglassing is what he does 5 days a week, he doesn't want to spend every weekend glassing

I'm glad you enjoyed learning and laughing your way through this thread

    I'll second that

    Forget the Report #

    Day 29 -

Cut and shaped the under bunk storage and made a start on the floor,

cut holes for the inspection hatches under each bunk,

and hatches for access to the storage area

And there endth todays ausfish update

[smiley=dankk2.gif] mate.... searches through umpteen photo files and reminds self to get into a habit of renaming photos as soon as they're downloaded from the camera.... uhuh, found a couple among our foggy Queens birthday weekend.... resizes and uploads to photobucket.... here we go Kev

Will try remember to take a pic of it closed up later. Now that he's worked with timber a wee bit more he's come up with some ideas to improve on this version

P.S. Just in case he's an ausfisher.... credit and thanks to the fisherperson who was camped nearby us on Crusoe, and allowed Ross to thoroughly inspect his homemade camp kitchen

    ColacGirl,
Firstly I went to Colac Tech back in '71.

This thread is great and I look forward to the updates with great admiration for your willingness to take on such a task and then post it in such a professional manner for our entertainment and knowledge.

Do you have any facts like a list of all the materials used that you are accumulating for a post close to the end?

Wishing you a quick finish to the project.

Only for the one year? Tech had just gone co-ed when I was due to go to secondary school and I so wanted to go there, but dad said I had to go to colac High as there would be TOO MANY BOYS at Tech!
Boys? Gosh, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind

Yes, I am keeping count and will post quantities of materials and consumables at the end.

Don't forget the capital expenditure (tools) and entertainment expenses

Bev is *very* thorough with her book-keeping folks........she has to be to find the money for Ross's Cougar
