    Repairing a fibreglass esky

    Hi there,

I am looking to repair my fibreglass esky, but am a real novice in the world of fibreglass. So I have a very basic question.
What are the differences between and the applications for Flowcoat and gelcoat?
Sorry to all those fibreglass experts for the dumb question, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

    Cheers,
    Matt.

    gelcoat
for putting in a mould to lay your mat/resin onto, the shiney finish on the outside of your boat. Stays stick to allow layup of glass
    flowcoat
used to put on the outside of a glassing product, has wax in it so it dries
    very simplistic answer
    cheers

it depends on what you are repairing, if it is a chip/chunck out you can use white fibreglass putty sort of stuff that works a treat and is really easy to use, but if it is broken, then you need to use mat and resin and stuff.

I think there are 2 sorts of resins -Epoxy and Poleyester. Epoxy is two pack like araldite whereas polyester only needs a small amount of setting agent. I think poleyester may dissolve the foam insulating material. if it comes in contact so it might be worth checking this with someone more knowledgeable. A boat repairer should be able to point you in the right direction
