    Alloy Vs St Steel Prop?

    Hi
Currently have an Alloy prop. I've been talking to some fellow boaties & everyone recommends St Steel. Wanting to know if we should we upgrade?

Please help out with some positives & negatives?

We have a 4.6m tinny with a 50 on the back. Bay & estuary use only & we get up into the shallows of creeks.

    Thankyou in advance

    alloy
reason is that if you hit a submerged something you may smash your prop but it wont bend prop shaft or stuff the gearbox, ok I know this wont happen every time you hit something with a stainless prop but once could cost you upto $3000.
The benifects of stainless is there is less flex and this in turn means less prop slip so you may obtain slightly better fuel ecomomy/ speed/ better out off the hole.
The difference in such a low power outboard would be so little I dont think you would notice
Price difference any where upto $400 in your Hp range.
Others will disagree with my statements but I will stand by them.

    G'day
    What blaze said... again

Alloy for you as it's a low horsepower range and you do run the higher risks of hitting submerged objects, damaging the prop and finally the gearcase in the areas you frequent.

If you were doing alot of blue water running (open bay and outside) and had a bigger horsepower to consider i'd be going stainless.

If you spend a lot of your time around sandbars and mudflats you could do with the stainless as if you hit these it wouldnt get damaged or worn out like an ally.

You will need to give the stainless a fair old "WHACK" to do damage to a gearbox and insurance is going to help you out in thast case
