Wash boats - Rainwater tank

After tonites rain. Looks like i can give the boat a good wash everytime i go fishing.
got a 5000l tank with a pressure pump. all thanks to the Water grant thingy.

Its great to be able to do that. We have a tank with a pump as well. Before we got the pump I actually did wash the boat on one occasion using a bucket and spong. Horrible job. I see many people go though car washes and hose down there. Thats a great idea. Much better than using a bucket of water if you dont have a tank with a pump.

you can't do much without a pump. gravity feed is hmmm.. slowwwwwwwwwwwww. From the instructions it's 52 litres per minutes.
I hope it's strong enough to clean the fish scale and steped on bait.

I did my own little experiment a while ago using a bucket verses a fine mist attachment on the end of my hose. I own two Pajero 4wd's and both needed a wash so I thought it was an ideal situation to put water useage methods to the test because I always believed the tedious bucket method wasted water. Well I took water meter readings prior to washing my Pajero and used buckets and exceeded what I worked out to be in excess of 30 litres of water. Then I washed the wife's Pajero once again taking another reading and this time using the hose with the fine mist attachment. Surprise surprise I was right. Used 7 litres of water by comparison. The government need a wakeup call with their water restrictions I think. The only way I think the bucket method would save water is that the majority of us will say "Stuff that for a joke, the car can just stay dirty!"

The reason I mentioned this is because those fine mist gadgets work a treat and save water and would in fact be good for washing the boat for those without a rainwater tank. But according to the council it is still wasting water.

I have also heard you can hook a gernie (high pressure water cleaner) straight up to the water tank and the pump inside the gernie with the gravity feed is enough to not have to worry about another separate pump.

I have a 3000ltr tank around side of house (with no pump), and run a hose to front driveway to wash boat from it. I have a 'Karcher' high pressure cleaner that I use and it's fantastic from the gravity feed.

Most other types of pressure cleaners need at least say 10 to 15ltrs / min pressure (which is close to normal mains pressure) to run a gerni, but not the karcher!

Last week I flushed me motor in the tank as usual, But filled it with the kids bath water.

I then hooked up me gurnie to the bottom of the flush tank, normal click hose attachment and found there was plenty of pressure, or allows enough suction to run my 1850 psi gurnie.

So I washed the trailer for several minutes, then the boat for several more minutes, Hmmm back to the trailer.

And surprise hardly any water used, I washed the Paj, then the Sedan,
Driveway Etc.
Then took some digi photo's of me set up in case I got a fine from council.
Would of been lucky to use 4 buckets of water.

So guy's don't need a water tank just the kids bath water, small tank 20 litre with a hose out let and gurnie.

After I installed the rainwater tank and started washing the boat/flushing the motors etc., I just waited for the neighbour to 'chip' me about the water restrictions, so then I could say..
SEE THE RAINWATER TANK I JUST INSTALLED? HA HA HA

The satisfaction was worth it!

i got a onga JPS 110 for $379 but i think it gone up to $675 now ( in 4 weeks). can run dry without damage. adn spits out 52 litres per minute. Got it all thanks to the rebate scheme.

$1000 for the tank, $379+ installation cost, slab, etc.
Total cost i think around $1700

so $750 rebate from the council
and $950 from state government.

cost to me. hmmmm Nothing.

I just hook the gernie up to the hose and wash the boat down, spray the boat wash stuff on first, then rinse it with the high pressure.

Before I do that but, I hook the hose up to the motor and run it for about 10 minutes. [smiley=bath.gif]

I have found it easy as and have been doing this for the past 3yrs.
I got go up to the local car wash use the high pressure hose with soap.
Take a sponge wash her down and then a quick rinse costs about $5.
Not too bad considering I dont have the room for a tank in meh yard.

where did u get tank from. This is what i want to do. I was talking to tank place today. I will be in redcliffe shire. I was quoted $1075 for 5000 litre tank. Installation $300- 500.
State rebate $1000. Local rebate $300.
Not bad. Going to buy tomorrow, hopefully

Try and get it in writing when they will deliver it. I was told 2-3 weeks. 9weeks later and multitudes of unreturned phone calls I am still none the wiser when it may arrive. Not happy
