    overseas boat purchases

Hi all, I am looking into purchasing a boat from the USA , has anyone had experience with purchasing from overseas sales. I am looking @ buying a nitro/ skeeter/ ranger style bass, barra rig. Any information or leads would be appreciated.

    Hi Pete

Don't know if this is of any assistance but a friend of ours bought a bare boat of this style from one of the Qld manufacturers a few yrs ago after they imported it to have a look at prior to building something here.

He bought it bare; fitted a 4 stroke, and clears / covers etc and put it on a trailer, used it and then moved inland away from water, , anyway it is for sale. Maybe it could be worth a look at as a cost effective and less complicated way to get a boat of this type?

    Cheers

G`day Morfin,a mate of mine just purchased a 26 ft striper from Miami and saved about 25 grand compaired to what they were asking here. The only prob he had was very high shipping costs because it wouldn`t fit in a container, and no warranty on the outboards.

Also remember Americian boats in the 20 plus feet bracket generally have 102" (in american language not being metificated and all) beams, which in oz language is over width if trailering!

    Re: overseas boat purchases

Morfin...there are the following charges to consider:
Inland freight in the USA (getting the boat to the port)
    Loading fees in the USA
    Freight
Port costs etc and unloading fees here..
I cannot find the exact figures for when mine when it came over but it was a bit over 20k in total.

    Pinhead,
so did you make a saving on this purchase of boat ?

    Re: overseas boat purchases

Surely 20k is a bit ott? they are selling new imported american bowriders for high 20 thousands, so if you took the 20k off that for shipping, they would be selling them for less than 10k?, and the manufacturer is making a profit also?

    Re: overseas boat purchases

Morfin...I did not bring the boat in myself..through the importer but that was the transport and associated costs.

Tony..the bowriders come in containers...a lot less to freight...my boat was on a timber cradle.

    Re: overseas boat purchases

check how they would be forwarding the boat..in container..cradle ??..and make sure everything is sealed or it will take a while to clear customs...they will check every spot on it
