Yalio Aluminium rollers?  Will they wear keel

Just replaced the polly rollers on my trailer with Yalio rollers and am now a little concerned about wear on the keel. Hasn't happened yet as the rig has only had one trip since the refit. Just don't want to wear a hole in the bottom of my Hornet. Has anyone else used these rollers and if so what are your thoughts. Boat doesn't have a external false keel.

Sniper I woud assume the aluminium used would be of the very soft variety might even leave marks on your keel (not mark the keel), although I have no experience with them.
Somewhere safe get a punch and softly punch it, then do it on your boat, we are talking a tiny mark here nothing manic and not on sheet work, heaps of options. You can be sure then.

Had a good look this afternoon after work. Pushed the boat back a bit on the trailer and there is a mark on the keel where each roller is. Will keep a close eye on it though. Not a bad idea about using a punch to see which is the softer alloy. I do remember years ago my father had a Clarke Abalone with a false keel and aloy rollers on the trailer. The rollers had groves in them to locate the boat straight on the trailer and they chopped the keel out over a period of time. This may have been because of the sharper edge on boat the keel and the rollers. Anyone else using these? I can't imagine that they would do the damage that some people I've spoken to say they do otherwise they wouldn't have released them on the market. Would leave them too open to litigation. Might send an email to Yalio to ask their opionon.

Re: Yalio Aluminium rollers? #Will they wear keel

    Hi Billyboy
put a Yalio self centering roller on the rear of my trailer the other day.
I beach launch all the time and drag the boat up the beach and reverse the trailer under the boat, saves a lot of winching or getting the Hilux wet.
the roller appeared to work well but the sharp edges on the roller took a sliver of ally off the T keel with every rotation all the way along the keel
took to it with a file and slightly rounded of the rollers sharp angles.
    will see how that goes.
also the Yalio roller is only 150mm and the old blue Poly roller was 160mm this has left a gap that will allow the keel to get jammed in so I will have to make up a spacer to rectify.
hope it works in the long run as the Blue Poly ones dont last long with this punishment.
maybe try the Magnacetal roller next time of if the Yalio keeps damaging the keel.

Well so far so good. @ trips to Somerset, 1 to Borumba and a few locals and no signs of wearing. There is a little mark where each roller sits but doesn't seem to be wearing at the alloy. Will keep a close eye on it though, as heading to Awonga early next month and don't want to hit the water and find out I've got holes in the boat. Might get my feet wet then!!! Will keep you all posted if anything happens for the worst. Fingers crossed that it doesn't and the Barra will be biting their silvery heads off and there will be hardly any people there. Whoops, back to reality!!!

Re: Yalio Aluminium rollers?  Will they wear keel

Guys, I rang and spoke to the guy who manufactures these rollers yesterday. He was extremely helpful. I explained the layout of my trailer to him and the reason why I was looking to use the Yalio roller. Rather than replace all of the poly rollers he suggested to only replace the back couple to assist in loading the boat on the trailer straight.

He has a website (www.yalio.com.au) with his contact details.

    Cheers
