i thought the big foot was a commerical out board used by the pros. When i bought my boat couple months ago there was one there the same ready for delivery and it had a 60 bigfoot on it. the dealer told me it was for commerical use. more expensise.
Mercury Bigfoot - The lower end is oversized and is reported to have a sturdier construction. other than that, not much of a difference from a "standard" mercury.
There are others with more knowledge on the electrics of these beasts. I know that there was a small problem with the elctronics but is relatively easily fixed. Not sure if it was on this model though????
I used to have a 60hp Bigfoot on a 5m Halfcab about 6 years back.
It was a good donk, had plenty of low down grunt to get the old bus straight out of the hole.
As with any 2nd hand outboard I'd recommend getting a mechanic to check it out first, or at the very least carry out some basic tests like checking the compression out on each cylinder, and checking the gearbox oil for water etc. (there's probably some good posts outlining what to check if you do a search on here)
I have decided against that setup. My mates brother in law is selling a seajay 445 escape side console with a 50hp yammie. Since the loan is been pre approved, i hope to have it by the end of the weekend.
I was very happy with the condition of both the boat and motor.
