Can I mount my electric outboard here??

I know another electric outboard question. I plan to add an electric outboard to my 4 metre qunitrex trevally. I plan on purchasing the Min Kota 55 inch bow mount as I feel I will need the extra long shaft because I have deep Vee Tinny not a V Nose punt.

Anyway people have told me that the slope of my bow will mean I will have to weld an aluminimum plate to make it flat. The angle is not that bad but I do intend on adding the slide on plate for the electric.

Do i have to do this or can I add it on without adding the welded on plate?

I have included a pic of the bow for reference

    Cheers Dan

Have a look at Setthehook pictures in Freshwater reports he had the same drama.. ended up bolting on a wedge to keep it level....

So yes, you will Have to do it

to do it the way i did you would have to cut that handle off. The bow is higher towards the back of the nose hood so you need to make a wooden chock to go underneath the front of the motor to bring it up level. I made my chock out of ply and kept adding pieces until it was the right height then i covered the chock in marine carpet to llok decent. I drilled 6 holes through the Bow hood and ran 6 bolts through and 2 of the bolts went through the wood chock. Bolted it all up and it works a treat.
Other options is to have it ont he side but if you want to take that avenue i would recomend gettting a aluminium welder to make you a flat plate table to bolt it too.
I have a minn kota maxxum and my way worked well but i dont know about your model and the slide on plate.
You will need the longer shaft though

definatlly get some sort of plate or chock made up mate, it will work and look soo much better

Try and imagine the angle of the shaft all the way 55 inches down, and then the prop angle off that. When turning left or right you will have the prop angled up one way and down the other, therefore not getting the same amount of push from the motor when going forwards or back. This probablly dosn't cause too much performance difference, but it will be stressing the steering box and shaft suports more than if it was stright up and down.

    Hi

I'm considering doing what you are doing, but due to security concerns I will have to use the removeable plate mounting thingy that you can get from Minn Kota that allows you to take the motor off the boat easily. So I plan to just pack under the fixed plate with washers, plate alloy or similar where the bolts go through. The motor should have a rigid mount to fit to.

Not sure if that makes sense, but this should cost less than a trip to the welder and you get an easy way of taking the motor off.

    Whichway

I intend to use the removable plate as well but after takling to a welder yesterday he is going to build me a plate to bring it flush which the removable plate will sit on. Is this possible???????? as I have not seen the plate yet but I imagine the bottom is flat and the motor sits in it.

hahahaha that was funny Sean!! That is the pic sean took on my boats testing day after i built it and as you can see i had some changes to make!!!
Here is a shot of the motor after the changes and its now perfect to use with no movement at all in the connection to the boat.
