my mate has a 30hp. 2 cly. mercury outboard has not been used for some time due to ill health but is only 4 years old,done about 10 hrs work went to start up and found out the rubbers in the carbyies are gone,does anyone no of some one to carry out repairs for him at a fair price in the Arana Hills area in Brisbane as he is only on a pension. :
Rubbers in the carby's how do you know, think there be only one rubber O' ring in there.
Could be perished if using E10 fuel, but you wouldn't notice it leak.
Or do you mean float bowl gaskett has dried out and is leaking, or could be float bowl is stuck down allowing fuel to over fill the carb and just over flowing.

yes the diaphram rubbers have dried out and need replacing,would it be a job for a mechanic or would it be easy enough for a old truckie to replace the full set of kits on both the carbys. merv
Merv, give it a go mate, it's only a few screws, just remeber where every thing goes, don't bend any thing and try not to touch the mixture settings on the carb. But if you do count how many turns from lightly seated on the screws so when you put it back together you restore factory mixture settings. Eg: 1.5 turns out from lightly seated.
Put some paper down on your bench, keep it all clean, also you should buy a can of carby clean, that ought to clean it all up.
Don't drop anything or run any wires or brushes through the jets.
Easy you will enjoy it, might need glasses though some bits are tiny.
Also need smaller cleaner tools than usual.
