Just making sure you understand your poor attitude! Not a good example for people to be setting then trying to justify it by making excuses for their actions.

hmmm. So i guess that would constitute "irresonsible behaviour"? Perhaps my choice of words were somewhat innapropriate, but the setiment remains the same. If everything we do in life has to be influenced by the lowest common denominator, ie: idiots, then i see no reason why, from time to time, i cant get a little frustrated. A small percentage of the population may choose to abuse the system, but why should i pay for it? and by "pay", i dont mean in a monetary sense.
Got mine through Redcliffe Coastguard.
Well worth the effort.
Cheers

Actually...you are not guilty. You are not required to log VHF TX & RX.......if we did that there would not be a tree left standing.
Even if you did, unless your boat is under survey and you have a station license with HF equipment fitted, which surveyor is going to check your log?

Hi all...
Out of the current handbook,
Section 2, para 15, item 1, part.
A copy of the handbook and material suitable for use as a radio log should be
held aboard a vessel.
Section 2, para 16, item 1.
Operators should keep a record of all distress alerts, and messages transmitted
or received.
Particulars should include the station or stations with which the messages were
exchanged, the frequencies used and the date and times of the transmission
and reception.
These apply to VHF, and MF/HF.
A ''ships station'' is a boat with a marine radio fitted. (27mhz, VHF, MF/HF)
There are also secrecy requirements that you are not allowed to relay anything you have
heard to a 3rd party unless it was a distress call, or addressed to "all stations"
I agree that its unlikely that the log will ever be inspected, but, if you're ever involved
with a situation, your logs can be requested by a coroner, and be used in court.
Its all fun!
Harry.

"Should".........not "shall".......not "must"...... and in reality, in the commercial arena, it is just not done because it is not required to be done. The VHF traffic volumes are enormous. [smiley=wink.gif]

so you are completely complicit with the use of a vhf and all the necessary calls and procedures? I hope so..your life and someone elses may depend on it one day. I learnt a lot by doing the course and at least know I can make the correct call if in trouble and get the required assistance.

I know it reads "SHOULD".. and if used "PROPERLY", logs SHOULD be kept......
All limited coastal stations maintain a detailed log of all tx's and rx's.
All responsible commercial vessels maintain a detailed log the same.
It IS a lot of paperwork.
It SHOULD also save their arse SHOULD the ca ca hit the fan.
Harry.

Correct. Log on and log off..............
All responsible commercial vessels maintain a detailed log the same.
Incorrect.
These are the facts Harry.
