    Hi Smelly

Glad things are going well and you are well and truely on the way..

Trim the motor in ie down to start and as you get faster and up on the plane trim it out / back.

You will probably feel the steering get easier ie not pull as hard as you you trim the motor out and if you go too far you will pass the "sweet spot"

Just practise and you will be fine.

I've left you last repairs to others as you now have a good following and I've been sort of tied up dealing with multiple poilce and insurance people re this "BARS" thing we are trying to get up.

Good luck with it, just keep asking.

    Cheers

So Smelly, the gear box work okay now, start in neatral, and go in to the right gear when selected?

Yeah leg all the way down, tilt it all the way down to start with. You need weight forward as well, so if you got 2 fat blokes sitting in the back, the boat she ain't going to get out the hole and on top of the water. So them fella's have to move forward until the boat is on the plane then they can go to the back again.

Come to think of it you had a foil on the back didn't you.
That thing bolted to your cav plate, If you still have problems put that back on.

But be warned they can bight you in the arse if they are not trimmed down far enough, or you don't get ready to hold the steering wheel firmly
they take a bit of getting use to so I beleive.

Yeah CHimo/Bilgeboy - THis forum is pretty special.

I wanted to repay my team (all you guys!) by not giving up and following through on their advice, wisdom and patience - ultimately proving to them and myself that this donk was not beyond repair and that I would get it going again one day....

The thread should also be a good (very good in fact) reference to anyone in future who wants to investigate why their donk is overheating..

    With thanks
    Smelly

PS - saw some hugely amazing size fish on my new Furuno 585 last night!

    Well,

I took my boat to the boat dealer for a linc and sinc..

Sat there all day without the cowl lifted off and then rings up COB - come and get it - no time today (after promise he'd have it done for today)..BULLOCKS!! >

    Never again - mungrel!

I am wondering if I can ask some one to come to my place and do the linc and sinc - with pay of course..Do u think this is possible?

Be a real long drive that one Blaze!!!

Smelly, I think the dealer had a look and saw that some fiddling had occured and decided not to touch it.....

Most dealers wont touch an engine that someone has played with themselves and I do understand why. Many people are not reasonable about things and if the dealer has to start righting many wrong things then obviously the bill creeps up and then an argument is usually not far away.

Also on top of that is the dealers concern as to what has been played with and what has been done correctly and what has been done incorrectly. See, most people think that after having an engine serviced that everything should be perfect and if something goes wrong then its the fault of the service being incorrectly carried out.

I'll have a poke through the epic that has been created here and see if I can guide you through setting up the timing and carbs.

To begin with, carbs should be closed at idle. Pickup or initial timing will be around TDC give or take a few degrees (not real critical) and max spark around 25 degrees. If you have a manual lets work from whats in that.

    Cheers,

    Nicholas

    Re: Cooling System Warning Alarm

Hi Smelly, I know it's a pain but take it to someone who does this work on outboards regular. To do it properly You will need to wreck a prop and have the boat backed down the ramp on the trailer with the engine at 5000+rpm in gear with spanners and timing light, it's just not fun!

But if you are keen -eveyone had to do their first at some stage.

    cheers fnq

    Hi Team.

Just wanted to close this one off - took the boat to a service dealer.

Got the linc and sinc done - not too expensive.

He said it was pretty much out of wack - but no damage done - thankfully.

Compression in all 4 cylinders still at factory (128psi) rating.

They said motor was in great nick for it's age and will last another 20 years - if well looked after.

No more overheating siren and rejeuinated engine life.

It has been a great thread so once again thanks to all!

I am off to GOVE in March for an indefinte working holiday.

The boat is now ready for those monstors.

Stay tuned for some awsome fish photos!
